Aito Launches More Affordable M6 EV Variants with In-Cabin LiDAR

Huawei-backed Aito has introduced two new entry-level battery electric variants of its M6 SUV, lowering the starting price by 50,000 yuan. The new models feature advanced smart driving technology and an 81-kWh battery platform, aiming to make the M6 more accessible to buyers.

New Entry-Level Variants Expand M6 Lineup

Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) announced the launch of two new BEV variants of the Aito M6, with starting prices from $33,948 (~AUD 48,053) to $36,903 (~AUD 52,235). This move reduces the entry price for the mid to large-size SUV, as the previous BEV versions started at $41,335 (~AUD 58,508).

Customers who order the new models can receive purchase benefits valued up to $8,273 (~AUD 11,710), along with a one-month free trial of Huawei’s ADS Pro Plus advanced feature package.

Features and Specifications

Both new M6 BEV variants are built on the 81-kWh Giant Whale battery platform and use a rear-mounted single motor delivering up to 227 kW (304 hp).

The BEV Max version, priced at $33,948 (~AUD 48,053), comes with in-cabin LiDAR and omits air suspension. It is equipped with Huawei’s ADS Pro Plus smart driving system, supporting urban navigation assistance and all-scenario parking.

The BEV Max+ version, at $36,903 (~AUD 52,235), features an 896-channel image-grade LiDAR and retains air suspension. This higher-tier model supports the next-generation ADS assisted driving system.

The BEV Max has a CLTC range of 602 km (~374 miles), while the Max+ offers 630 km (~391 miles). Both variants maintain the same exterior dimensions: 4,960 mm (~195 inches) in length, 1,985 mm (~78 inches) in width, 1,736 mm (~68 inches) in height, and a wheelbase of 2,950 mm (~116 inches).

Aito and HIMA Sales Performance

The Aito brand, jointly developed by Huawei and Seres (HKEX: 9927), is the first and best-selling brand under HIMA. The Aito M6 officially launched on April 22 and is positioned as a mid to large-size SUV.

In May, retail sales of the Aito M6 reached 18,148 units. HIMA delivered a total of 46,122 vehicles in the same month, marking its second consecutive month of sequential growth with a 40.79 percent month-on-month increase. From January to May, HIMA delivered about 192,000 vehicles, up 26.5% year-on-year.

Why this matters

The introduction of more affordable Aito M6 BEV variants makes advanced EV technology and smart driving features accessible to a wider range of buyers. By lowering the entry price and offering incentives, Aito and Huawei are responding to growing demand for competitively priced electric SUVs in China.

Strong sales figures for the M6 and continued growth for HIMA highlight the increasing popularity of EVs equipped with advanced driver assistance systems and large battery capacities.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in a mid to large-size electric SUV now have more affordable options with the new Aito M6 BEV variants. The inclusion of in-cabin LiDAR and Huawei’s smart driving systems at a lower price point may appeal to those seeking advanced technology without a premium cost.

With significant purchase benefits and a free trial of advanced features, now may be an opportune time for consumers in China to consider the Aito M6.
