Today, Nissan and the IRS jointly announced that the Leaf has once again become eligible for the federal tax credit for electric vehicles. With a tax credit now totaling $3,750, the Leaf’s starting price can be as low as $24,400, positioning it as one of the most affordable EVs available in the US market. Similar to several other automakers, Nissan has faced challenges in meeting the battery component requirements necessary to qualify for the maximum $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles in the US. The Leaf, manufactured in Tennessee, has experienced periods of eligibility and ineligibility for the tax credit twice since the implementation of the tax credit reform last year.
