In California, home to one of the largest state grids globally, records continue to be broken as battery storage assumes a prominent position. Its role is increasingly vital in absorbing solar energy during the midday peak and redistributing it to meet the evening demand, where it often stands as the primary supplier. The remarkable transformations within the California grid have swiftly unfolded this spring, marked by a surge in renewable energy achievements. Notably, renewable energy records have been shattered, with demand being exceeded by a staggering 158% on a recent Saturday. This abundance of renewable energy has facilitated the fulfillment of local energy needs for extended periods, sometimes up to nine hours per day or beyond.
