Beijing Hyundai Ioniq V Opens Pre-Sales in China, Starting at $17,791 (~AUD 24,997)

Beijing Hyundai has officially launched pre-sales for the Ioniq V, its debut model under the Ioniq new energy brand, at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show. The Ioniq V is available in three trim levels, with pre-sale prices ranging from $17,791 (~AUD 24,997) to $20,759 (~AUD 29,166). The model features a design process led entirely by the Hyundai China Design Centre and offers a range of advanced technology features.

Pre-Sale Pricing and Trim Levels

The Ioniq V is offered in three distinct trim levels for the Chinese market. The Standard Edition is priced at $17,791 (~AUD 24,997), the Smart Driving Edition at $19,275 (~AUD 27,082), and the Long-Range Edition at $20,759 (~AUD 29,166).

These prices position the Ioniq V as a competitively priced electric vehicle option for Chinese consumers.

Design and Exterior Features

The Ioniq V stands out with sharp, flat surfaces and a fastback silhouette. The front end features a fully closed decorative panel in place of a traditional grille, split lighting components, a horizontal daytime running light strip, and integrated headlights within the bumper.

Other exterior highlights include frameless doors and blacked-out window trim. Customers can choose from eight available colours: Cyber Gold, Dimension Purple, Gamma Green, Magnetic Grey, Photon White (solid), Photon White (matte), Flowing Silver, and Night Blade Black.

The vehicle measures 4,900 mm (~193 inches) in length, 1,890 mm (~74 inches) in width, and 1,470 mm (~58 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm (~114 inches).

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Ioniq V features a ‘Nebula Wrap-around’ design with Alcantara, bright accents, and Nebula light ambient lighting. The centrepiece is a 27-inch 4K central control screen powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip.

The infotainment system integrates advanced AI large-language models, including Ernie Bot (Wenxin Yiyan from Baidu) and Doubao (from ByteDance). The vehicle is also equipped with the ‘Cyber Eye’ HUD head-up display.

For driver assistance, the Ioniq V utilises the Momenta system, providing high-speed auxiliary driving capabilities.

Performance and Battery Options

The Ioniq V is powered by a single motor, available in two output options: 140 kW (188 hp) and 168 kW (225 hp).

Depending on the configuration, the vehicle is paired with either a 53.5 kWh or a 66.8 kWh LFP battery from CATL. Four CLTC pure electric range options are available: 520 km (~323 miles), 540 km (~336 miles), 620 km (~385 miles), and a maximum of 650 km (~404 miles).

Why this matters

The launch of the Ioniq V marks Hyundai’s commitment to the Chinese electric vehicle market, with a model designed specifically for local preferences and needs. Its combination of advanced technology, competitive pricing, and multiple range options provides Chinese consumers with a new choice in the growing EV segment.

What this means for buyers

Buyers in China now have access to a new electric vehicle option with advanced features and a range of configurations. Those interested in the Ioniq V can take advantage of the pre-sale period to secure their preferred trim and colour.
