BYD Da Han EV Sedan Debuts in China With Up to 1,008 km Range and Flash Charging

BYD has officially unveiled its Da Han EV sedan at the 29th Chengdu Auto Show, opening presales for its latest full-size luxury electric vehicle in China. The Da Han, also known as the Great Han, stands out with its advanced technology, long range, and premium features, starting at $37,080 (~AUD 52,099).

Design and Features

The BYD Da Han EV adopts the brand’s Loong Face (Dragon Face) design language, featuring thin headlights, a ‘Dragon Whiskers’ chrome-plated front panel, and semi-hidden door handles. The sedan measures 5,256 mm (~207 inches) in length, 1,999 mm (~78.7 inches) in width, and 1,510 mm (~59.4 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm (~123.2 inches).

Buyers can choose from five body colors: silver, green, red, beige, and black, with four of these available in a contrast-colored roof. The Da Han rides on 20- or 21-inch rims with floating center caps that remain upright while driving.

Suspension, Steering, and Technology

The Da Han is equipped with the DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension, which can increase ground clearance by 100 mm (~3.9 inches). Rear-wheel steering reduces the turning radius to just 4.95 meters (~16.2 feet).

A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor is integrated as part of the DiPilot 300 (‘God’s Eye B’) assisted driving system, supporting Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) functionality. This system allows the car to drive from address to address with the driver supervising.

Interior and Comfort

Inside, the BYD Da Han offers up to 31 speakers (25 as standard) and electrochromic rear windows that adjust transparency at the touch of a button. The interior features real wood trim, soft-closing doors, and a dashboard with three screens: an LCD instrument cluster, a floating touchscreen, and a front passenger’s monitor. A head-up display is also included.

Powertrain and Performance

The entry-level Da Han EV uses a single electric motor delivering 370 kW (496 hp) and a 102.326 kWh battery, providing up to 1,008 km (~626 miles) of range under CLTC conditions. The top-trim AWD version offers a combined 570 kW (764 hp) and a range of 880 km (~547 miles) with the same battery.

All versions support flash charging, enabling a charge from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes.

Pricing and Trim Levels

The BYD Da Han EV is available for presale in three trim levels:

– RWD Premium: $37,080 (~AUD 52,099)

– RWD Flagship: $40,048 (~AUD 56,269)

– AWD Flagship: $44,500 (~AUD 62,523)

Upcoming Plug-in Hybrid Variant

A plug-in hybrid version of the Da Han will be offered in the future. It features a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 115 kW (154 hp) and an electric motor for a combined 200 kW (268 hp) in the entry-level variant. This model can travel up to 470 km (~292 miles) in BEV mode using a 54.489 kWh LFP battery. A dual-motor AWD plug-in hybrid variant with 400 kW (536 hp) will also be available.

BYD Sales Performance

According to China EV DataTracker, BYD sold 411,072 vehicles globally in July 2026, marking a 20.5% increase year-over-year. However, domestic deliveries in China declined by 30.9% year-over-year to 172,449 units.

Why this matters

The launch of the BYD Da Han EV highlights the brand’s continued push into the premium electric sedan segment, offering advanced technology and long-range capability. Its combination of luxury features, high performance, and rapid charging positions it as a significant entry in China’s growing EV market.

What this means for buyers

Buyers in China now have access to a new full-size luxury EV with standout range and technology features. Those considering a premium electric sedan can look at the Da Han as a strong option, with multiple trim levels and a plug-in hybrid variant on the horizon.
