The BYD Da Han, the brand’s new flagship sedan, has been seen on Chinese streets without camouflage ahead of its official launch. The model will be offered in both all-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, with the BEV version boasting up to 1,008 km (~626 miles) of range. New images reveal the Da Han’s design details and advanced technology features.
BYD Da Han Makes Public Appearance Ahead of Launch
On July 9, new spy shots shared by SugarDesign showed the BYD Da Han sedan driving in China, finished in a glossy red color with white front pillars and roof. The vehicle features chrome trim, large multi-spoke rims with weighted center caps displaying the Han (汉) badge, and a streamlined body shape.
The Da Han is built on the same platform as the Da Tang (Great Tang) SUV, which previously received over 100,000 pre-sale orders in less than two weeks. The sedan is also known as the Great Han.
Technical Highlights and Features
The all-electric BYD Da Han is equipped with the second-generation Blade battery, which can charge from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes. The sedan also features rear-wheel steering, active suspension, semi-hidden door handles, a single taillight unit, thin headlamps joined by a chrome-plated element, and an active air intake.
A LiDAR sensor is mounted on the roof, supporting the DiPilot 5.0 assisted driving system. This system enables Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) functionality for both urban roads and highways.
Powertrain Options and Performance
The entry-level Great Han EV comes with a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 370 kW (496 hp), while an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant offers a combined peak power of 570 kW (764 hp). The RWD version is expected to deliver a range of 1,008 km (~626 miles), and the AWD version up to 880 km (~547 miles).
For those preferring a hybrid, the Da Han PHEV uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine (115 kW/154 hp) paired with a 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor and a 54.489 kWh LFP battery, enabling up to 470 km (~292 miles) of electric-only driving.
Design and Dimensions
The BYD Da Han measures 5,256 mm (~207 inches) in length, 1,999 mm (~79 inches) in width, and 1,510 mm (~59 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm (~123 inches). This makes it 66 mm (~2.6 inches) longer than the standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Other exterior highlights include chrome accents, a streamlined roofline, and distinctive lighting elements.
Market Position and Sales Context
The BYD Da Han is aimed at the $44,105 (~AUD 63,612) segment in China. The existing BYD Han lineup remains on sale, with the standard Han recording 3,390 units sold in May and the more powerful Han L delivering 689 units in the same period, according to China EV DataTracker.
Why this matters
The BYD Da Han introduces advanced battery and charging technology to the Chinese premium sedan market, offering one of the longest electric ranges available. Its combination of rapid charging, high power output, and advanced driver assistance features highlights BYD’s ongoing push to innovate in the EV segment.
The model’s imminent launch and its positioning above the existing Han lineup signal BYD’s intent to compete in the upper tier of China’s electric vehicle market.
What this means for buyers
Buyers in China seeking a large, technologically advanced electric or plug-in hybrid sedan will soon have a new option with the BYD Da Han. With its high range, fast charging, and advanced driver assistance, the Da Han is positioned to attract those looking for a flagship experience in the premium segment.
