BYD has reached a significant milestone in the UK, delivering its 100,000th new energy vehicle (NEV) since entering the market in March 2023. The company has also announced plans to expand its charging infrastructure with 300 flash charging stations across the country by the end of the year.

BYD Achieves Rapid Growth in the UK
BYD executive vice president He Zhiqi announced the delivery of the company’s 100,000th NEV in the UK. According to He, BYD is the fastest brand in UK automotive history to reach a 5% market share.
In the first four months of this year, BYD sold 26,396 NEVs in the UK, representing a 124% increase year-on-year. The company’s market share in the UK has now exceeded 7%.
Charging Infrastructure Expansion
He Zhiqi also visited BYD’s first flash charging pile in the UK, located in Uxbridge. BYD plans to roll out 300 flash charging stations across the country by the end of the year.
The company unveiled its new-generation fast-charging facilities in China in March. When paired with the latest second-generation Blade Battery, these chargers can bring a vehicle from 10% to 97% charge in just nine minutes.

Product Range and Market Position
BYD has overtaken BMW, Tesla, and Volkswagen to become the UK’s largest EV brand. The company currently offers 11 NEV models in the UK, including both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
BYD’s first model in the UK was the Atto 3, known as the Yuan Plus in China. Its models range in price from the Dolphin Surf at $25,062 (~AUD 35,437) to the Sealion 7 at $63,107 (~AUD 89,232).
BYD models do not qualify for UK government subsidies, while some rival models can receive discounts of up to $5,032 (~AUD 7,116).
Sales Milestones
BYD entered the UK passenger vehicle market in March 2023. It took the company 19 months to reach cumulative sales of 10,000 units, but only five months to double that figure to 20,000.
The rapid increase in sales reflects the company’s growing presence and product lineup in the UK market.

Why this matters
BYD’s achievement of delivering 100,000 NEVs and surpassing major competitors in market share highlights the growing influence of Chinese automakers in the UK and Europe. The planned rollout of 300 flash charging stations is set to further support the adoption of electric vehicles by improving charging convenience for UK drivers.
What this means for buyers
Buyers in the UK now have access to a wider range of NEV options from BYD, with models spanning various price points and powertrains. The upcoming expansion of fast-charging infrastructure may also make EV ownership more practical for a broader range of consumers, even though BYD models do not currently qualify for government subsidies.
