BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao brand is set to unveil its largest SUV yet, the Tai 9, at the upcoming 2026 Chengdu Auto Show. The new 6-seat plug-in hybrid model will be showcased alongside other BYD debuts, highlighting the brand’s rapid growth and expanding lineup.
Tai 9: Fang Cheng Bao’s Largest SUV
The Tai 9 is a full-size, 6-seat plug-in hybrid SUV and marks the largest model in the Fang Cheng Bao lineup. With dimensions of 5,270 mm (~207 inches) in length, 1,999 mm (~78.7 inches) in width, and 1,880 mm (~74 inches) in height, the Tai 9 surpasses the Bao 8 off-road SUV in size. Its wheelbase measures 3,130 mm (~123.2 inches), and the height can be reduced to 1,850 mm (~72.8 inches) when configured without roof rails.
The vehicle is powered by a 1.5-liter engine paired with front and rear electric motors, each delivering a peak power of 200 kW. This setup forms an all-wheel-drive system, supported by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack with a capacity of 66.48 kWh. The Tai 9 offers a battery-only range of 310 kilometers (~193 miles) and a top speed of 220 kilometers per hour.

Debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show
The Tai 9 will make its global debut at the 29th Chengdu International Automobile Exhibition, held from August 21 to 30, 2026, at Western China Expo City. BYD will feature a dedicated group pavilion in Hall 9, where the Dynasty lineup’s first D-segment flagship sedan, the Da Han, will also be introduced on media day.
The Tai 9 recently appeared in a regulatory filing catalog of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and Fang Cheng Bao released its first teaser video for the model on August 2.
Fang Cheng Bao’s Expanding Lineup and Sales
Fang Cheng Bao, launched by BYD in August 2023, is positioned between the mass-market Dynasty and Ocean lineups and the ultra-luxury Yangwang brand. The Tai 9 will join a portfolio that includes the Bao 5 and Bao 8, which are aimed at off-road enthusiasts, and the Tai 3 and Tai 7, which focus on urban and family use.
The brand reported cumulative deliveries surpassing 500,000 units in less than three years, with an average transaction price exceeding $33,022 (~AUD 46,454). In July alone, Fang Cheng Bao sold 41,213 vehicles, representing a 190.6% year-on-year increase. Deliveries for the first seven months of 2026 totaled 200,687 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. The Tai 7 is currently the brand’s best-selling model, with 27,320 units delivered in July and cumulative sales exceeding 210,000 units about 11 months after launch.

Why this matters
The debut of the Tai 9 at the Chengdu Auto Show highlights Fang Cheng Bao’s commitment to expanding its SUV offerings and meeting the demands of the full-size segment. With strong sales growth and a rapidly diversifying lineup, the brand is solidifying its position in China’s competitive new energy vehicle market.
The introduction of a large, plug-in hybrid SUV with significant electric range and advanced powertrain technology demonstrates BYD’s ongoing innovation and ability to address a broad spectrum of consumer needs.
What this means for buyers
Buyers interested in a spacious, full-size plug-in hybrid SUV will soon have a new option with the Fang Cheng Bao Tai 9. Its combination of size, electric range, and all-wheel-drive capability positions it as a strong contender in the segment. Those considering a Fang Cheng Bao model can expect continued innovation and expanding choices as the brand grows.
