Spy shots from China have revealed the updated interior of the upcoming BYD Seagull refresh. The entry-level EV, also known as the Dolphin Mini, Dolphin Surf, and Atto 1 in some markets, now features a redesigned centre console and a single, centre-mounted infotainment display. This marks the first public look at the cabin changes ahead of the model’s official launch.
Interior Changes for the Refreshed Seagull
The refreshed BYD Seagull introduces a sloped, dual-layer centre console, providing increased vertical storage space for items such as tissue boxes and takeaway meals. A large infotainment touchscreen now sits atop the centre console, replacing the previous driver’s dashboard display.
Physical buttons remain below the centre air vents, and the steering wheel has been updated with ‘squircle’ angular buttons. The marine blue interior theme continues, now complemented by red accents on the seat bolsters.

Exterior and Powertrain Updates
The new Seagull has grown in size, now measuring 4,205 mm (~165.6 inches) long, 1,810 mm (~71.3 inches) wide, and 1,570 mm (~61.8 inches) high. Its wheelbase has increased by 150 mm (~5.9 inches) to 2,650 mm (~104.3 inches). The curb weight is now rated between 1,180 and 1,255 kg (~2,601 to ~2,767 lbs).
All new trims listed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) feature 205/60R16 tyres, a notable change from the current model’s 165 and 175 section tyres. The single front motor now delivers 95 kW (127 hp), an increase of 40 kW (54 hp) over the previous top trim, with a top speed of 150 km/h (~93 mph).

Battery and Platform Details
The refreshed Seagull will use an LFP battery supplied by Shaoxing FinDreams Battery, a BYD FinDreams subsidiary. It is built on a low-voltage 400V platform and will not support BYD’s Flash Charging standards.
The current Seagull offers only air-cooled batteries on its entry-level 305 km (~190 miles) trims. It is not yet clear if air-cooled options will remain available in the updated model.
Sales Performance
According to China EV DataTracker, BYD delivered 8,879 Seagull units domestically in July 2026. Once the best-selling car in China, the Seagull has recently been surpassed in sales by the Geely EX2 and Leapmotor B03X.
Why this matters
The BYD Seagull refresh brings significant updates to both the interior and powertrain, aiming to enhance practicality and performance in the entry-level EV segment. With increased competition from models like the Geely EX2 and Leapmotor B03X, these changes may be key for BYD to regain its position in the domestic market.
What this means for buyers
Buyers considering the BYD Seagull can expect a more spacious and modern interior, improved motor output, and larger tyres for better road handling. However, those looking for fast-charging capabilities should note the absence of BYD’s Flash Charging support in the refreshed model. Monitoring for further details on battery options and pricing will be important as the official launch approaches.
