BYD Song L GT Electric Fastback Spotted Testing in China After Year-Long Hiatus

The BYD Song L GT electric fastback crossover has reappeared on Chinese roads, a year after its initial homologation details were revealed. Recent sightings show the vehicle undergoing road tests without camouflage, offering a closer look at its design and features.

BYD Song L GT: Recent Sightings and Market Status

A new photo of the BYD Song L GT was recently shared by SugarDesign on Weibo, showing the vehicle in road tests in China without any camouflage. This comes after a period of minimal market activity, with just 981 units delivered from January to May 2026—a sharp 88.9% decline compared to the previous year.

The Song L GT was first revealed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in July 2025 as an updated version of the Song L EV, which originally launched in December 2023.

Design and Features

The BYD Song L GT stands out with aggressive styling, including a sporty bumper and a large air intake. The front end features thin headlamps connected by a chrome-plated ‘Dragon Whisker’ element. Additional design elements include hidden door handles, a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof, and blackened pillars.

The vehicle measures 4,840 mm (~190.6 inches) in length, 1,950 mm (~76.8 inches) in width, and 1,560 mm (~61.4 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm (~115.4 inches). Its curb weight is 2,380 kg (~5,247 lbs).

Powertrain Options

The Song L GT offers three powertrain configurations: a rear-wheel drive (RWD) version with 170 kW (228 hp), another RWD version with 230 kW (308 hp), and an all-wheel drive (AWD) variant delivering 390 kW (523 hp).

Why this matters

The reappearance of the BYD Song L GT on public roads highlights ongoing developments in BYD’s electric vehicle lineup, despite a significant drop in recent deliveries. The model’s advanced design and multiple powertrain options demonstrate BYD’s continued investment in the fastback crossover segment.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in the BYD Song L GT should monitor official channels for updates, as the vehicle has seen limited deliveries so far in 2026. Those considering this model can expect distinctive styling and a range of powertrain choices, but should stay tuned for further announcements regarding availability and technical specifications.
