Owners of the BYD Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) Ti7 SUV in China are reporting significant issues with the vehicle’s panoramic glass roof, including detachment and water leaks. Complaints have surfaced since the EV model’s launch, raising concerns about quality control during a period of rapid sales growth for BYD.

Widespread Complaints About Glass Roof Issues
Since the launch of the FCB Ti7 in September 2025, Chinese consumer complaints platform 12365auto has recorded 300 complaints related to the model. The most serious reports involve the panoramic glass roof detaching at the left-rear corner, leading to leaks, increased wind noise, and water pooling at the rear charging port.
These roof issues have only been reported for the Ti7 EV variant, with the first complaints appearing after its debut on April 30, 2026. Owners state that the problem can occur within a week of delivery, and that the glass panel can only be temporarily pushed back into place.
Details of the Reported Defect
According to SMZDM, a Chinese consumer guidance platform, some Ti7 owners have experienced roof leaks that caused flooding at the vehicle’s left-rear charging port. A complaint about this issue was filed with 12365auto on June 23, 2026, but has since been deleted.
The 3YC Ownership Report, a BYD-focused WeChat account, suggests that the defect may be linked to production process complications, such as uneven adhesion or imbalanced force during installation. However, no similar issues have been reported for the Ti7 PHEV, indicating the problem may be isolated to the EV version.
BYD and Dealer Response
BYD and its affiliated FCB dealers have responded to 99.2% of the 300 complaints, including those related to the glass roof. As of now, 31 official complaints specifically concern the detached glass roof. BYD has stated that these issues have been forwarded to authorities and that affected owners should expect to be contacted by staff.
Some owners remain dissatisfied with the response, with at least one alleging that after-sales service offered to resolve the issue only if the complaint was deleted, but no compensation or repairs were provided after the retraction.

Ti7 Sales and Market Performance
The Ti7, also known as the Tai 7, is sold under the FCB sub-brand in China and will be marketed as the BYD Ti7 in export markets. According to China EV DataTracker, 17,510 Ti7 units were delivered domestically in May 2026, down from a peak of 34,086 units in December 2025, when the Ti7 briefly became China’s third best-selling SUV.
BYD and FCB ramped up Ti7 EV deliveries in May and June 2026, with 1,800 and 4,554 units delivered, respectively. The emergence of glass roof issues appears to coincide with this production ramp-up.

Competitor Comparison
The BYD Ti7 competes in China’s rapidly growing SUV segment, facing rivals such as the Li Auto L7, Aito M7, and BYD’s own Tang DM-i. These models are known for their focus on technology and quality, making the Ti7’s reported roof issues a notable concern for buyers comparing options in this class.
Why this matters
BYD has seen rapid growth, with global new energy vehicle sales reaching 3.02 million units in 2023 and capturing around 18% of the global EV market in 2025. Quality concerns like the Ti7’s glass roof issue could impact consumer confidence, especially as BYD expands into export markets under the Ti7 name.
The situation highlights the challenges automakers face in maintaining quality during periods of rapid production increases.
What this means for buyers
Prospective buyers of the BYD Ti7, especially the EV variant, should be aware of the reported glass roof issues and monitor BYD’s official response. Those considering the PHEV version may face lower risk, as no similar complaints have been reported for that model.
Buyers are advised to follow updates from BYD and local dealers regarding any recalls or repair programs before making a purchase decision.
