BYD has officially launched its Denza Z electric supercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, positioning it as a direct rival to Europe’s top performance brands. Despite a price tag approaching $200,000, the Denza Z undercuts and outpaces the Porsche 911 Turbo S, offering groundbreaking technology and performance.

Denza Z Debuts as BYD’s Flagship Electric Supercar
BYD introduced the Denza Z at the Beijing Auto Show in April, describing it as a model that ‘marks a watershed moment for the global auto industry.’ The Denza Z is available in three versions: Coupe, Spider, and Racing, all built on BYD’s new e3 platform.
According to BYD, the Denza Z is ‘the world’s first intelligent supercar,’ delivering ‘shattering high performance,’ rapid charging, and the brand’s latest technological advancements.
Performance and Technology
All Denza Z variants feature a tri-motor setup—one motor at the front and two at the rear—producing a combined 1,582 hp (1,604 PS). The Racing variant, when equipped with optional semi-slick tires, accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 1.96 seconds and reaches a top speed of 217 mph.
The Coupe achieves 0 to 62 mph in 2.25 seconds, while the Spider completes the sprint in about 2.3 seconds. Each model is powered by a 76 kWh BYD Blade Battery 2.0, with WLTP ranges of 410 km (~254 miles) for the Coupe, 400 km (~248 miles) for the Spider, and 380 km (~236 miles) for the Racing variant.
The Denza Z is the first in China to use a fully in-house-developed steer-by-wire system, enhancing handling and efficiency. It also features BYD’s Disus-M magnetorheological intelligent suspension system, which allows the car to absorb or even jump over bumps.
Charging and Dimensions
Built on an 800V architecture, the Denza Z supports BYD’s Flash Charging system, enabling a recharge from 10% to 70% in as little as five minutes.
The Denza Z measures 4,780 mm (~188 inches) in length, 1,990 mm (~78 inches) in width, and 1,350 mm (~53 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,780 mm (~109 inches). This makes it slightly larger than the Porsche 911 and comparable in size to the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe.
Interior and Features
Inside, the Denza Z is equipped with BYD’s latest software, including an 8.8-inch driver display and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen with Google built in. The Coupe and Racing variants feature a 12-speaker sound system, while the Spider is fitted with 10 speakers.
Pricing and Availability
In the UK, the Denza Z Coupe starts at £142,900 ($192,000 (~AUD 276,669)), the Spider at £159,900 ($215,000 (~AUD 309,811)), and the Racing version at £172,900 ($232,000 (~AUD 334,308)). For comparison, the Porsche 911 Turbo S is priced at £199,100 in the UK.
Pre-orders have opened in China, with the Coupe Hardtop starting at $100,296 (~AUD 144,524), the Spider Convertible at $115,045 (~AUD 165,778), and the Racing Track edition at $174,042 (~AUD 250,792).
The Denza Z will go on sale in late summer, with customer deliveries expected to begin by the end of 2026.

Why this matters
The Denza Z demonstrates BYD’s ambition to challenge established European performance brands with a high-powered, technologically advanced electric supercar. Its combination of price, performance, and rapid charging positions it as a compelling alternative to traditional luxury sports cars.
With features such as a tri-motor powertrain, advanced suspension, and ultra-fast charging, the Denza Z signals a shift in the global supercar segment towards electrification and innovation.
What this means for buyers
Buyers seeking supercar performance with the latest EV technology now have a new option in the Denza Z, which offers greater power and faster acceleration than the Porsche 911 Turbo S at a lower price point. Those interested should watch for the opening of Denza retail stores and the start of customer deliveries later in 2026.
Potential buyers in China benefit from significantly lower pricing compared to the UK, making the Denza Z especially attractive in its home market.
