BYD Unveils Qin Max Sedan With Flash Charging, Expanding Qin Lineup

BYD has released official images of its new Qin Max sedan, which will become the flagship model in the Qin family. The Qin Max introduces BYD’s latest flash charging technology and is expected to be available in both BEV and PHEV variants.

Qin Max: New Flagship for the Qin Family

BYD (HKEX: 1211) has previewed the Qin Max, an all-new B-class sedan positioned above the Qin L in the brand’s lineup. The Qin Max is expected to be offered in both battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions, further expanding the Qin family, which currently includes the Qin Plus and Qin L.

According to Lu Tian, head of sales for BYD’s Dynasty lineup, the Qin Max is designed to support flash charging and will serve as the flagship model in the Qin series. Official images of the vehicle were released, but details on launch timing and pricing have not yet been disclosed.

Flash Charging Technology

The Qin Max will feature BYD’s flash charging, the company’s term for its latest ultra-fast charging technology. In March 2025, BYD introduced its Super e-Platform, capable of megawatt-level flash charging with peak power up to 1,000 kW.

This March, BYD announced a new-generation flash charging system with single-gun charging power reaching up to 1,500 kW. Vehicles equipped with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery can use this technology to charge from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes.

Powertrain and Dimensions

The BEV version of the Qin Max is powered by BYD motors with peak outputs of either 240 kW (322 hp) or 120 kW. The PHEV variant uses a plug-in hybrid system that combines a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine (74 kW) with an electric motor (175 kW).

According to regulatory filings, the Qin Max measures 4,866 mm (~192 inches) in length, 1,880 mm (~74 inches) in width, and 1,495 mm (~59 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm (~111 inches). For comparison, the Qin L is slightly shorter and wider, measuring 4,830 mm (~190 inches) in length, 1,900 mm (~75 inches) in width, and a wheelbase of 2,790 mm (~110 inches). The BEV version of the Qin Max can also be fitted with ‘Da Qin’ or ‘Qin Ultra’ rear badges.

Qin Series Sales Performance

The Qin series remains one of BYD’s best-selling model lines, with 661,090 units sold in 2025 according to CnEVPost data. However, sales have declined significantly this year. In June, the Qin series recorded 14,900 units sold, a 66.17% decrease year-on-year. For the first half of this year, total sales reached 149,174 units, down 45.62% compared to the same period last year.

Why this matters

The introduction of the Qin Max brings BYD’s latest flash charging technology to its popular sedan lineup, offering ultra-fast charging capabilities that could appeal to buyers seeking reduced charging times. As the flagship model, the Qin Max expands the Qin family and provides new options for consumers interested in both BEV and PHEV powertrains.

With the Qin series experiencing a notable sales decline in 2026, the Qin Max may play a role in attracting new customers and revitalizing interest in BYD’s sedan offerings.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in BYD’s Qin lineup will soon have a new flagship option with advanced charging technology and a choice of BEV or PHEV powertrains. Those considering a Qin model may want to watch for further details on the Qin Max’s official launch date and pricing, especially if ultra-fast charging is a priority.
