BYD Unveils Third-Generation Tang SUV at 2026 Chengdu Auto Show

BYD has introduced the third-generation Tang SUV at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, marking the latest update to its Dynasty lineup. The new five-seat, mid-to-large SUV will be available for purchase in the fourth quarter of this year. The Tang will join the Da Tang to form a dual-flagship SUV lineup for BYD.

Third-Generation Tang: Features and Performance

The third-generation Tang SUV is positioned as an 8-series flagship within BYD’s Dynasty lineup. It measures 5,045 mm (~199 inches) in length, 1,980 mm (~78 inches) in width, and 1,760 mm (~69 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm (~116 inches).

The vehicle is equipped with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology. Battery pack options include 88.682 kWh and 105.792 kWh, delivering CLTC all-electric ranges of 730 km (~454 miles), 830 km (~516 miles), and 850 km (~528 miles), depending on the configuration.

Charging and Powertrain

At normal temperatures, the battery can charge from 10% to 70% in about 5 minutes and reach 97% in 9 minutes. In extremely cold conditions, charging takes about 3 minutes longer.

A version previously filed with Chinese regulators features a single electric motor with a peak output of 300 kW (402 hp) and a top speed of 250 km/h.

Advanced Suspension and Driver Assistance

The third-generation Tang is equipped with BYD’s DiSus-A intelligent air suspension body control system, which includes dual-chamber air suspension and an intelligent road-preview function.

All variants come standard with the God’s Eye B driver-assistance system, featuring 1 LiDAR sensor and supporting navigation-assisted driving on both urban roads and highways, as well as automated parking.

BYD’s Dual-Flagship SUV Lineup and New Launches

The third-generation Tang will join the 9-series Da Tang, which went on sale in June, to form a dual-flagship SUV lineup for BYD’s Dynasty series. The Da Tang EV, launched on June 17, starts at $35,597 (~AUD 50,015) and offers a CLTC range of up to 950 km (~590 miles). Deliveries of the Da Tang EV surpassed 10,000 units about one month after launch.

At the Chengdu Auto Show, BYD also unveiled the Da Han EV and opened pre-sales for the model. The Dynasty 9-series flagship sedan Da Han EV offers a range of up to 1,008 km (~626 miles).

Why this matters

The debut of the third-generation Tang SUV demonstrates BYD’s ongoing commitment to expanding and updating its flagship models. With advanced battery technology, rapid charging, and enhanced driver-assistance features, the Tang aims to strengthen BYD’s position in the competitive Chinese SUV market.

The introduction of the Tang alongside the Da Tang and Da Han EVs at the Chengdu Auto Show highlights BYD’s strategy to offer a comprehensive range of high-performance electric vehicles.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in a mid-to-large electric SUV with long range and fast charging capabilities will find the third-generation Tang a compelling option. With sales set to begin in the fourth quarter, potential customers should watch for further details on pricing and availability.

Those considering other BYD flagship models, such as the Da Tang or the newly unveiled Da Han EV, will also have a broader selection of high-range electric vehicles to choose from in 2026.
