Sacramento, the capital city of California, known for its fervent embrace of electric vehicles, is now considering a proposal to restrict the establishment of new gas stations or the upgrading of existing ones, except for installations of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The city recently unveiled its 2040 Sacramento General Plan, as reported by OPIS, advocating for the development of “future-ready” gas stations. According to the plan, the city aims to prohibit new gas stations or the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure unless the project includes the provision of 50kW or higher direct current fast charger (DCFC) electric vehicle charging stations. The requirement stipulates a ratio of at least one new charging station for every new gas fuel nozzle added.
