Denza Z Arrives at Chinese Dealers Ahead of Q4 2026 Launch

The Denza Z, BYD’s electric four-seat sports car, has reached dealerships across China in advance of its official sales launch set for the fourth quarter of 2026. The model, which previously opened for pre-sales at $100,954 (~AUD 140,923), is available in both coupe and track-focused variants.

Denza Z Variants and Exterior Features

The Denza Z is offered in two main versions: a standard coupe hardtop and a racing track edition. The coupe hardtop is finished in silver, featuring blackened pillars and roof, as well as semi-hidden door handles. Its dimensions are 4,780 mm (~188 inches) long, 1,990 mm (~78 inches) wide, and 1,330 mm (~52 inches) high, with a wheelbase of 2,780 mm (~109 inches).

The track version stands out with retractable door handles, which will be prohibited in China starting January 1, 2027. This edition is painted orange and features aggressive bumpers, a large rear wing for added downforce, blackened rims with staggered tires (275/35 front, 325/30 rear), and orange brake calipers.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the standard Denza Z for China is equipped with a D-shaped steering wheel, a stalk-mounted gear shifter, a 12.8-inch center screen, a streaming rear-view mirror, and an 8.88-inch LCD instrument cluster. Physical buttons are located beneath the main display. The center tunnel includes a single cup holder, a wireless phone charger, and a fragrance system. Seats are upholstered in leather and suede.

The track edition’s interior features additional orange accents and carbon fiber elements, aligning with its performance-oriented design.

Performance and Powertrain

The Denza Z adopts a three-motor setup: a front TZ220QYD e-motor delivering 500 kW (670 hp) and two TZ226XYG rear motors with a combined output of 680 kW (912 hp). This results in a total peak power of 1,180 kW (1,582 hp).

A 76 kWh LFV battery supports flash charging. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.96 seconds and achieves a top speed of 350 km/h (~217 mph) in the track edition. The WLTP range is rated between 380 km (~236 miles) and 410 km (~255 miles).

International Pre-Sales

The Denza Z also began pre-sales in the UK, where the entry-level coupe version is priced at $193,566 (~AUD 270,202).

Why this matters

The arrival of the Denza Z at Chinese dealerships signals BYD’s continued push into the high-performance electric sports car segment. With its advanced three-motor powertrain and rapid acceleration, the Denza Z demonstrates the growing capabilities of Chinese EV manufacturers in delivering both luxury and performance.

The introduction of both coupe and track-focused variants, along with international pre-sales, highlights Denza’s ambitions to appeal to a wide range of performance EV buyers.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in high-performance electric vehicles will soon have the opportunity to see the Denza Z in person at Chinese dealerships ahead of its Q4 2026 launch. Those considering the track edition should be aware that retractable door handles will be banned in China from January 2027, potentially affecting future compliance.

International customers, particularly in the UK, can already place pre-orders, with pricing set for the entry-level coupe. Prospective buyers should monitor local dealer availability and regulatory updates regarding specific features.
