Former US President Donald Trump has issued another warning to China’s automotive sector, pledging to levy a 100 percent tariff on vehicles manufactured in Mexico for Chinese companies if reelected later this year. In recent weeks, Chinese automotive titan BYD expressed its intention to establish a factory in Mexico, aiming to streamline access to the US market, the world’s second-largest. Mr. Trump, who is set to compete in the November election against incumbent President Joe Biden, has previously stated his intention to impose a 50 percent tariff on Chinese cars built in Mexico should he return to office.
