In May, the electric vehicle market in Australia experienced a resurgence, attributed partly to substantial price reductions by several prominent automakers. Chinese brands have also begun to challenge the traditional dominance of market leader Tesla. According to the most recent data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), 8,974 fully electric cars were sold in Australia during May. This marked a significant increase from the 6,194 sales recorded in April and a rise from the 8,124 sales reported in May 2023.
