A former Battery Module Design Engineer at Tesla believes that the sodium-ion battery technology developed by his startup, Bedrock Materials, is prepared for integration into an electric vehicle (EV) with a range of 300 miles, at a cost lower than the prevailing cheapest lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology. Spencer Gore asserts that “there’s a strong indication that sodium-ion will surpass lithium iron phosphate, currently the most economical lithium-ion option,” potentially paving the way for affordable electric cars priced below $25,000, akin to the long-awaited Tesla Model 2 that never came to fruition.
