Nio is road-testing an updated ET5 Touring, with new high-resolution images surfacing online. The refreshed electric wagon could make its official debut at Nio Day 2026, set for December in Wuhan, Hubei province.
Updated ET5 Touring Caught in Testing
High-resolution images of a camouflaged updated Nio ET5 Touring have been shared by Weibo automotive blogger @万万_ECC. The vehicle, still in its wagon body style and covered in Nio’s signature camouflage wrap, was spotted undergoing road tests.
This marks the second time in August that spy shots of the refreshed model have appeared online. Earlier in the month, blogger @飞机先生_ posted lower-resolution images showing the front of the new vehicle.

Hints of a New Wagon and Nio Day 2026
Nio management previously hinted at plans for a new wagon during a media briefing on May 28. While details remain limited, the updated ET5 Touring could be officially unveiled at Nio Day 2026.
Nio Day 2026 will take place in December in Wuhan, Hubei province, following a user vote to determine the event’s location.
ET5 Touring Sales Performance
The ET5 Touring has seen a significant drop in deliveries. In July, the model delivered 1,561 units, a 64.7% decrease year-on-year and a 14.3% decline from June. Over the first seven months of 2026, deliveries totaled 13,695 units, down 47.2% compared to the same period last year.
The ET5 Touring’s share of Nio Inc’s total deliveries has also fallen, dropping from about 25% two years ago to just 4.3% in July.
Current Pricing and Model Updates
Nio currently offers the 2026 ET5 Touring starting at $44,103 (~AUD 62,182), including the battery pack. For customers opting for the BaaS (battery as a service) battery rental plan, the starting price is $28,119 (~AUD 39,646).
In June, Nio introduced a Champion Edition of the ET5 Touring equipped with a 100-kWh battery pack, with a starting price of $46,323 (~AUD 65,312).

ES8 Becomes Nio’s New Sales Mainstay
The third-generation ES8 large SUV, launched in September 2025, has become the brand’s primary sales driver, overtaking the ET5 Touring in importance for Nio.
Why this matters
The appearance of the facelifted ET5 Touring in road tests signals Nio’s ongoing efforts to refresh its lineup amid declining sales for the model. With the ET5 Touring’s share of total deliveries dropping sharply, the updated version could play a key role in regaining customer interest.
Nio Day 2026 in Wuhan may serve as a major platform for the company to showcase this refreshed model and potentially boost its presence in the electric wagon segment.
What this means for buyers
Buyers interested in the Nio ET5 Touring should watch for official announcements at Nio Day 2026 in December, as the updated model may bring changes worth considering. Those looking for the latest features or improved value may want to wait for the facelifted version’s debut before making a purchase decision.
