Geely Aegis Gold Brick Battery Achieves 1093 kW Peak Charging While Meeting Strict Thermal Standards

Geely’s new Aegis Gold Brick Battery has surpassed the 1000 kW charging threshold during recent state validation testing, setting a new benchmark for vehicle-side charging speeds. The battery, featuring advanced thermal management, was certified under the supervision of the China Automotive Technology and Research Centre.

Record-Breaking Charging Performance

The Geely Aegis Gold Brick Battery packs achieved a certified peak input of 1093 kW during official testing. This milestone was reached using short-blade lithium iron phosphate cells and a 900V system architecture. The achievement highlights a shift in the electric vehicle industry, where the focus is increasingly on reducing charging times rather than simply extending driving range.

The battery supports the Lynk & Co 10 series, which recently launched in the domestic market. The entry-level variant of this series is priced at $24,979 (~AUD 35,958).

Advanced Thermal Management

Managing heat during high-speed charging is critical to battery longevity and safety. The Aegis Gold Brick Battery maintained a maximum peak temperature of 64°C during maximum power draw, staying within China’s national regulatory limit of 65°C.

This is achieved through a dual-sided 3D liquid-cooling design that surrounds each battery cell group with refrigerant. The cooling system doubles the available heat-exchange surface area and halves the thermal-conduction path. Integrated management software continuously monitors and adjusts cooling flows to prevent hot spots.

Charging Speed and Durability

The Lynk & Co 10 series equipped with this battery can charge from 10% to 70% in just 4 minutes and 22 seconds, significantly faster than the previously expected 9-minute cycle. Charging from 10% to 97% capacity is completed in 8 minutes and 42 seconds during certified testing.

This rapid charging rate translates to an added range of approximately 2 km (~1.2 miles) per second of grid connection. The battery is rated for up to 4500 complete charging cycles, with a projected lifetime mileage exceeding 1 million km (~620,000 miles).

Competitive Landscape

Geely’s rapid charging capability is positioned against BYD’s flash charging infrastructure, which uses 1500 kW terminal stations to achieve a 5-minute vehicle charging benchmark. While BYD’s infrastructure offers higher peak output at the charging station, Geely’s approach focuses on maximizing the vehicle’s ability to accept high power efficiently.

Patent Strategy

Geely has open-sourced 12 structural patents related to lower chassis protection. This move is intended to support broader manufacturing compatibility and potentially accelerate the adoption of advanced battery safety features across the industry.

Why this matters

The Geely Aegis Gold Brick Battery’s certified charging performance demonstrates significant progress in reducing electric vehicle charging times while maintaining strict safety standards. By achieving high-speed charging without exceeding regulatory thermal limits, Geely addresses a key challenge in EV adoption.

These advancements could influence future battery designs and charging infrastructure, supporting faster and more convenient EV use for consumers.

What this means for buyers

Buyers considering the Lynk & Co 10 series can expect some of the fastest charging available in the market today, with certified safety and durability. Those comparing options should also look at infrastructure compatibility and consider how Geely’s approach to open-sourcing patents may influence future vehicle choices and charging network availability.
