Geely Galaxy A7 EM PHEV Sets Guinness World Record for Longest Distance on Single Tank and Charge

Geely’s Galaxy A7 EM PHEV has achieved a new milestone, officially setting a Guinness World Record for the longest distance driven by a production plug-in hybrid sedan on a single tank of fuel and full charge. The record-setting journey covered 2,608.360 km, surpassing the previous benchmark held by the Chery Fulwin A8L.

Record-Breaking Journey Across China

The Geely Galaxy A7 EM completed its record drive over five consecutive days, traveling through four Chinese provinces: Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, and Guangdong. The attempt was conducted under the supervision of Guinness World Records, ensuring official recognition of the achievement.

By reaching 2,608.360 km (~1,621 miles) without refueling or recharging, the A7 EM exceeded the previous record of 2,369.950 km (~1,473 miles) set by the Chery Fulwin A8L.

Powertrain and Efficiency Highlights

The Galaxy A7 EM is equipped with Geely’s Thor AI-powered EM Hybrid 2.0 system. This powertrain features a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with a thermal efficiency exceeding 47.26%.

The hybrid system integrates an 11-in-1 electric drive unit, a single-speed DHT transmission, and an electric motor rated at 175 kW (235 hp). The vehicle also uses the ‘Aegis Golden Brick’ battery, which provides a pure electric range of up to 235 km (~146 miles) under CLTC conditions.

During the record-setting drive, the AI-driven energy management system maintained a fuel consumption rate in the 2L/100km range, even when the battery was depleted.

Market Launch and Sales Performance

The Geely Galaxy A7 EM was launched on 22 April 2026, with an official starting price of $17,613 (~AUD 25,402). The Thor AI Hybrid 2.0 PHEV powertrain, which delivers a thermal efficiency rate of 47.26%, was announced last year.

Geely Galaxy, the brand behind the A7 EM, is Geely’s best-selling new energy vehicle line. In June 2026, Geely Galaxy reported global sales of 108,206 units, marking a 19.9% year-on-year increase and a 32.4% rise compared to the previous month.

Why this matters

The Geely Galaxy A7 EM’s world record demonstrates the advancements in plug-in hybrid technology, particularly in terms of efficiency and range. Surpassing the previous record highlights the potential for PHEVs to deliver long-distance capability on a single tank and charge.

This achievement also reflects Geely Galaxy’s growing presence in the new energy vehicle market, supported by strong sales growth in 2026.

What this means for buyers

For buyers considering a plug-in hybrid sedan, the Geely Galaxy A7 EM PHEV’s record-setting performance offers evidence of its long-range capability and efficient powertrain. The model’s competitive starting price and recent sales momentum may make it an appealing option in the mid-size PHEV segment.
