Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 Plug-In Hybrid SUV Detailed: 2.0T Engine, 220 km/h Top Speed, and Market Ambitions

Geely’s Galaxy Cruiser 700 plug-in hybrid SUV has completed regulatory approval in China, revealing key technical details ahead of its commercial launch later this year. The new model brings a choice of turbocharged engines, advanced hybrid tech, and a focus on both performance and utility.

Technical Specifications and Powertrain Options

The Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 is built as a large, boxy SUV measuring 5,085 mm (~200 inches) in length and 1,999 mm (~78.7 inches) in width, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm (~114 inches). Height varies by trim, ranging from 1,895 mm (~74.6 inches) to 1,925 mm (~75.8 inches).

Three model variants are available. Two entry-level versions use a 1.5T turbocharged engine (model BHE15-CFZ) producing 115 kW (154 hp), enabling a top speed of 200 km/h (~124 mph). The flagship variant features a 2.0T turbo engine (BHE20-EFZ) with 155 kW (208 hp) and a maximum speed of 220 km/h (~137 mph). Both engine types are supplied by Aurora Bay Technology.

Battery, Weight, and Features

All Cruiser 700 variants use lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, with cells sourced from CATL, Jiangsu Times, and Zhongzhou Times. Zhejiang Shanjui Battery handles pack assembly. The 1.5T models have curb weights between 2,405 kg (~5,303 lbs) and 2,605 kg (~5,745 lbs), while the 2.0T variant reaches up to 2,805 kg (~6,183 lbs) and offers a towing capacity of 1,600 kg (~3,527 lbs).

Standard safety equipment includes an integrated event data recorder and Bosch IPB2.0 braking system. Buyers can select optional features such as electronic side steps, unique wheel designs, and grille welcome lights. The high-power trim adds a white roof and a dedicated satellite antenna.

Market Position and Availability

The Galaxy Cruiser 700 is set for commercial release in China within 2026. Geely Galaxy reported domestic sales of 71,562 vehicles in June 2026, maintaining a 4.4% market share according to China EV DataTracker. This new SUV is expected to help Geely sustain its growth in the competitive Chinese market.

Competitor Comparison

The Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 enters a segment crowded with large plug-in hybrid SUVs. Key competitors include the Li Auto L7, Aito M7, and BYD Tang DM-i, all of which offer similar hybrid powertrains and family-oriented features. The Cruiser 700 distinguishes itself with its robust towing capacity, multiple engine options, and customisation features.

Why this matters

Geely’s introduction of the Galaxy Cruiser 700 highlights the brand’s ongoing expansion and technical innovation in the plug-in hybrid SUV market. With global sales up 34% year-over-year in 2024 and a target of 2.71 million units by 2025, Geely is positioning itself as a major player both in China and internationally.

The Cruiser 700’s combination of performance, safety, and customisation options aims to attract buyers seeking a versatile and technologically advanced family SUV.

What this means for buyers

Buyers in China can expect the Galaxy Cruiser 700 to become available later in 2026, offering a choice between efficient 1.5T and more powerful 2.0T hybrid drivetrains. Those considering large plug-in hybrid SUVs should compare the Cruiser 700’s specs and features with rivals like the Li Auto L7 and BYD Tang DM-i to determine the best fit for their needs.
