GWM has filed for the new Wey V8X, a large all-electric SUV designed to compete in China’s premium battery electric vehicle market. The Wey V8X features a five-seat layout, a 5-meter body, and a powerful dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering 724 hp. This move comes as GWM expands its V-series lineup to include both hybrid and fully electric options.
Wey V8X: Powertrain and Performance
The newly filed Wey V8X is equipped with two electric motors for all-wheel drive. The front YS220QY234 e-motor, manufactured by Bosch-backed UAES, produces 220 kW (295 hp), while the rear QT70TZ220001 e-motor from GWM subsidiary Svolt delivers 320 kW (429 hp). Combined, the system offers a peak output of 540 kW (724 hp).
The V8X achieves a top speed of 220 km/h. Its dimensions vary slightly by trim, measuring 5,000 (or 5,040) mm in length (~197 or ~198.4 inches), 2,025 mm in width (~79.7 inches), and 1,808 (or 1,823) mm in height (~71.2 or ~71.8 inches). The wheelbase is 2,968 mm (~116.9 inches), with front and rear overhangs of 949 mm (~37.4 inches) and 1,083 mm (~42.6 inches), respectively.

Design and Features
The Wey V8X adopts a closed front end without a radiator grille, complemented by an active air intake to manage cooling for the electric system. The SUV features two headlamps connected by an LED strip and a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof. Traditional door handles are used, and the rear design includes a single taillight unit.
Inside, the V8X offers seating for five. Buyers can choose from three wheel options: 255/50 R20, HL255/50 R21, and 275/45 R21. The approach and departure angles are 19 and 23 degrees, respectively, supporting its large SUV credentials.

GWM’s V-Series and Market Position
The Wey V8X is part of GWM’s V-series, which will include both hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants, thanks to the GWM One platform. The V8X was initially revealed with a plug-in hybrid system, but the latest filing covers the BEV version.
Previously, GWM launched the larger Wey V9X, a three-row plug-in hybrid crossover positioned against flagship models like the Zeekr 9X and Aito M9. The V8X serves as a smaller sibling within the lineup.
Wey Brand Sales Performance
According to China EV DataTracker, the Wey brand delivered 40,828 units domestically from January to June 2026. This represents a 24.3% increase year-over-year, reflecting growing demand for GWM’s new energy vehicles.
Why this matters
The introduction of the Wey V8X signals GWM’s continued push into the high-end electric SUV segment in China. With strong performance figures and advanced features like dual-motor AWD and LiDAR, the V8X aims to attract buyers seeking a premium BEV experience.
Rising domestic deliveries for the Wey brand highlight the growing acceptance of GWM’s electrified models as the company adapts to rapid changes in China’s automotive market.
What this means for buyers
Buyers interested in a large, high-performance electric SUV will soon have another option with the Wey V8X. Those considering a purchase should watch for further details on pricing, range, and availability as GWM moves closer to launch. Comparing the V8X with other flagship BEVs and PHEVs in the segment will be important for making an informed decision.
