IM Motors Opens Pre-Sales for Revamped L6 Sedan, Launches Jimmy Choo Limited Edition

IM Motors, the electric vehicle brand under SAIC Motor, has unveiled its new-generation L6 sedan and opened pre-sales for the model. The L6 is available in three regular variants and two Prof. Jimmy Choo Bespoke Limited Editions, with a maximum all-electric range of 850 km (~528 miles).

New IM L6 Variants and Pricing

The new IM L6 comes in three regular variants, with pre-sales list prices ranging from $34,043 (~AUD 47,891) to $41,447 (~AUD 58,307). After pre-sales incentives, prices for these variants range from $32,563 (~AUD 45,808) to $39,967 (~AUD 56,224).

IM Motors has also introduced the Prof. Jimmy Choo Bespoke Limited Edition in two variants, priced at $34,784 (~AUD 48,933) and $37,005 (~AUD 52,058) after incentives. Only 1,000 slots are available in the first batch of this limited edition, with 100 released on launch day and another 100 to be made available daily from August 19 through August 27, while supplies last.

Jimmy Choo Collaboration and Design Features

On August 7, IM Motors announced that renowned footwear designer Jimmy Choo was appointed as bespoke design master for the new-generation L6. The Prof. Jimmy Choo Bespoke Limited Edition retains the same powertrain and chassis hardware as the regular models, but features exclusive design elements.

These include six exterior colors, a crystal-inlaid rear badge, and a bespoke blue cabin inspired by blue satin shoes designed by Choo for Princess Diana.

Technical Highlights and Performance

The IM L6 lineup is built on the brand’s new-generation NEO electrical and electronic architecture and uses an 800-volt high-voltage platform. Maximum charging power is 396 kW, enabling the vehicle to add 580 km (~360 miles) of range in just 15 minutes.

The Max and Pro Max variants are single-motor rear-wheel-drive models, delivering 245 kW and 300 kW, respectively, with 76-kWh and 93-kWh battery packs. Their CLTC ranges are 725 km (~451 miles) and 850 km (~528 miles).

The flagship Ultra variant features all-wheel drive, a combined output of 500 kW, peak torque of 800 Nm, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.74 seconds. It comes with a 103-kWh battery pack and a CLTC range of 840 km (~522 miles).

Chassis and Driver Assistance Technology

All L6 variants come standard with a fully drive-by-wire chassis, including Continental’s MK C2 brake-by-wire system and four-wheel steer-by-wire. The rear wheels can turn by up to 18 degrees in either direction, resulting in a tight turning radius of 4.39 meters (~14.4 feet).

The driver-assistance system, jointly developed by IM Motors and Momenta, incorporates Momenta’s world model and supports NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) without relying on high-definition maps.

IM Motors’ Recent Product Launches and Market Context

The L6 is part of IM Motors’ ongoing product offensive. The company previously launched its flagship LS9 large extended-range SUV in November and introduced the LS8 mid-to-large extended-range SUV on April 16, with the LS8 starting at $36,990 (~AUD 52,037).

Competition in the battery electric sedan market remains intense, with numerous domestic automakers and the Tesla Model 3 competing in the 200,000-yuan to 300,000-yuan price range.

Why this matters

The launch of the revamped IM L6, including the Prof. Jimmy Choo limited edition, demonstrates the growing emphasis on design partnerships and advanced technology in China’s electric sedan segment. With features like long range, rapid charging, and advanced driver-assistance systems, the L6 aims to stand out in a highly competitive market.

The collaboration with Jimmy Choo also highlights a trend toward greater personalization and luxury branding in the EV space.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in a premium electric sedan now have a new option with the IM L6, which offers a combination of long range, fast charging, and advanced features. Those seeking exclusivity may consider the limited Jimmy Choo edition, but should act quickly as availability is limited and slots are released daily through August 27.

Shoppers should compare the L6’s specifications and pricing with other models in the 200,000-yuan to 300,000-yuan segment to determine the best fit for their needs.
