A recent study has evaluated the potential of implementing small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) to address rising energy needs worldwide. However, the report casts doubt on the viability of this specific method of energy generation. Small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) are typically described as nuclear facilities with a capacity of up to approximately 300 megawatts, sufficient to power around 30,000 homes in the United States. The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) conducted the assessment and found that there are approximately 80 SMR concepts currently undergoing development across the globe.
