Kia PV7 Electric Van Spotted Testing Ahead of 2027 Launch

Kia’s upcoming PV7 electric van has been seen in public for the first time, offering a glimpse of its substantial size compared to the already successful PV5. The PV7 is set to expand Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) lineup when it launches in 2027, promising even more space and flexibility for commercial and passenger use.

Kia PV7: A Larger Addition to the PBV Lineup

The Kia PV7 is positioned as the larger sibling to the PV5, which debuted last year and quickly made an impact in the electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV) market. In the first quarter of 2026, the PV5 captured 9% of eLCV sales in Europe, and Kia now holds a 17.4% share of the UK eLCV market.

Kia’s PBV series leverages Hyundai Motor Group’s software-to-everything (SDx) platform, advanced batteries, and EV components to deliver what the company calls ‘total mobility solutions.’ The PV5, available in multiple configurations including Passenger, Cargo, Chassis Cab, Crew, Open Bed, WAV, and three-row seating, set the stage for this new approach.

First Look at the PV7’s Size and Features

The PV7 was recently spotted in public, revealing its larger dimensions compared to the midsize PV5. According to Kia, the PV7 offers ‘the greatest interior space in the lineup,’ though specific figures have not yet been disclosed.

The PV7 Concept, unveiled at CES 2024, measures 5,270 mm (~207 inches) in length, 2,065 mm (~81 inches) in width, and 2,120 mm (~83 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 3,390 mm (~133 inches). For comparison, the PV5 Passenger model is 4,695 mm (~185 inches) long, 2,895 mm (~114 inches) wide, and 1,915 mm (~75 inches) high, with a 2,995 mm (~118 inches) wheelbase.

Video footage shows the PV7 prototype with a wheelbase nearly matching the length of its car carrier, and a width that should contribute to its spacious interior. Kia has confirmed that the PV7 will feature Hyundai’s Pleos Fleet infotainment and software, and will be available in a variety of body types, seating options, and space configurations.

PV5 Success and Upcoming PBV Models

The PV5 has been offered in Europe with two battery pack options: a 51.5 kWh pack providing a WLTP range of 183 miles (~295 km), and a 71.2 kWh pack rated at up to 256 miles (~412 km) WLTP. The Cargo version offers similar battery choices, with WLTP ranges of 184 miles (~296 km) and 258 miles (~415 km), respectively.

At the Busan International Mobility Show last month, Kia introduced three new PV5 variants: PV5 Prime, PV5 Passenger 2-2-3, and PV5 Cargo High Roof. Looking ahead, Kia plans to follow the PV7 with an even larger PV9 model in 2029.

Why this matters

The introduction of the PV7 signals Kia’s commitment to expanding its electric commercial vehicle offerings, building on the strong market performance of the PV5. With its increased size and flexible configurations, the PV7 is expected to appeal to both business and passenger transport sectors seeking more space and advanced technology.

As electric vans become more prominent in Europe and beyond, Kia’s PBV lineup could play a significant role in shaping the future of commercial mobility.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in electric vans with maximum interior space and flexible configurations should keep an eye on the PV7’s official launch in 2027. Those needing a midsize option can already consider the PV5, which offers multiple battery and body choices. As Kia continues to expand its PBV range, more options for both commercial and personal use are on the horizon.
