Luxeed, the electric vehicle brand backed by Huawei and Chery, has opened pre-orders for its new RX coupe SUV in China. With pricing and features aimed squarely at the Xiaomi YU7, the Luxeed RX intensifies competition in the premium electric SUV market. The model brings advanced technology, high-end design, and a focus on autonomous driving capabilities.
Pre-Orders and Pricing
Pre-orders for the Luxeed RX began this week in China, with two variants available. The starting pre-sales price is $44,441 (~AUD 62,538), while the higher-spec version is priced at $53,335 (~AUD 75,054). The lower-priced variant comes equipped with an in-cabin LiDAR, and the higher-priced model features an architecture designed for L3 autonomous driving.
This pricing places the Luxeed RX at the upper end of the Xiaomi YU7’s price range, with the YU7 Standard starting at $34,613 (~AUD 48,708) and the YU7 GT at $57,797 (~AUD 81,333).

Design and Technology
The Luxeed RX is a mid-to-large all-electric coupe SUV built on Huawei’s Tuling platform. It measures 5,020 mm (~198 inches) in length, 2,007 mm (~79 inches) in width, and 1,585 mm (~62 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm (~118 inches).
Designed by Werner Gruber, formerly of Ferrari, and with chassis tuning by ex-Aston Martin CEO Tobias Moers, the RX combines performance with luxury. The vehicle debuts Huawei’s latest high-performance electric drive system, offering a maximum motor speed of 21,000 rpm.
Powertrain options include a 277 kW (371 hp) single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration combining 160 kW and 277 kW motors.
Battery, Range, and Autonomous Features
The RX uses Huawei’s Giant Whale battery platform, with available battery packs of 100.424 kWh, 100.256 kWh, and 81.1 kWh. The model achieves a CLTC range of up to 852 km (~530 miles).
For assisted driving, the RX is equipped with a 4-LiDAR array and 38 fused-sensing sensors, including an 896-channel dual-optical-path imaging-grade LiDAR and three high-precision solid-state LiDAR units. Most premium EVs in China currently use between one and three LiDAR units, making the RX’s setup uncommon.
Redundant systems for power supply, communications, perception, steering, and braking are included to support L3 autonomous-driving scenarios.

Interior and User Experience
Inside, the Luxeed RX features a 26-inch head-up display, a 16.1-inch central infotainment screen, intelligent wraparound seats with 98 pressure sensors, and a 1.8-square-meter powered partition sunshade. These features aim to deliver a high-tech and comfortable driving environment.
Market Position and Launch Plans
The Luxeed RX is the first SUV under Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) to use a letter-based naming system. The vehicle will make its public debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, which opens on August 21. All five brands under HIMA will participate in the event.
With the addition of the RX, Luxeed’s lineup expands to four models, joining the S7 sedan, R7 coupe SUV, and V9 MPV. The company has stated plans to strengthen its market foundation in 2026 and aims for annual sales of 1 million vehicles by 2030.
Competitor Comparison
The Luxeed RX and Xiaomi YU7 are both low-slung, sporty all-electric SUVs with similar dimensions and target customers. The RX’s pricing and technology position it as a direct rival to the Xiaomi YU7, particularly in the premium segment where advanced autonomous features and high performance are key selling points.
Why this matters
The launch of the Luxeed RX highlights the rapid evolution and intensifying competition in China’s premium electric SUV market. With advanced autonomous driving technology, high-performance powertrains, and luxury features, the RX aims to attract buyers seeking cutting-edge EVs.
Its direct competition with the Xiaomi YU7 signals a broader trend of tech giants and automakers collaborating to push the boundaries of electric mobility.
What this means for buyers
Buyers considering a premium electric SUV in China now have another strong option with the Luxeed RX. Those interested in advanced autonomous features and high-end design should watch for the RX’s official launch this fall and compare it closely with the Xiaomi YU7 and other segment rivals.
With pre-orders open and a public debut set for the Chengdu Auto Show, prospective customers can expect more details and hands-on impressions soon.
