Luxeed, the electric vehicle brand co-developed by Huawei and Chery, is set to open pre-orders for its new RX SUV in China on August 20. The RX will debut at a Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) event, marking the brand’s first SUV with a letter-based name. The model is positioned to compete directly with the Xiaomi YU7.
Luxeed RX to Debut at HIMA Launch Event
The Luxeed RX will be officially unveiled at a HIMA product launch event beginning at 2:30 pm Beijing Time on August 20. The event will also see the official launch of the Stelato G9 off-road SUV, which is jointly developed by Huawei and BAIC.
This marks a shift in Luxeed’s naming convention, as previous models such as the S7, R7, and V9 used number-based names. The RX is the first SUV from HIMA to adopt a letter-based name.

Key Features and Specifications
According to regulatory filings, the Luxeed RX measures 5,020 mm (~198 inches) in length, 2,007 mm (~79 inches) in width, and either 1,600 mm (~63 inches) or 1,585 mm (~62 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm (~118 inches).
The RX will be available with either a single 277-kW motor or a dual-motor setup that combines 160-kW and 277-kW motors. It will also feature Huawei’s next-generation Giant Whale battery platform.
A standout feature is the inclusion of a 4-LiDAR array, which is uncommon among mass-produced vehicles. Most premium electric vehicles in China currently use between one and three LiDAR sensors. The RX also incorporates a full-stack redundant architecture to support advanced assisted-driving capabilities.
Design and Market Position
When first teased in June, the Luxeed RX was shown with a sporty coupe-style design, a fastback profile, and full-width taillights. The model is positioned to compete with the Xiaomi YU7 SUV.
Luxeed’s current lineup includes the S7 sedan, R7 coupe SUV, and V9 MPV, with the V9 having launched in May.

Upcoming Appearances and Brand Strategy
The Luxeed RX will make a public appearance at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, which opens on August 21. All five HIMA brands are set to participate in the show.
Looking ahead, Luxeed plans to strengthen its market foundation in 2026 and has set a goal of reaching annual sales of 1 million vehicles by 2030.
Why this matters
The launch of the Luxeed RX highlights the growing competition in China’s premium electric SUV segment, particularly with advanced technologies like a 4-LiDAR array and a next-generation battery platform. The RX’s debut also signals a shift in branding strategy for HIMA, as it moves away from number-based model names.
With its advanced assisted-driving features and ambitious sales targets, Luxeed is aiming to expand its presence in the rapidly evolving Chinese EV market.
What this means for buyers
Buyers interested in the latest intelligent driving technologies and premium electric SUVs will want to watch the Luxeed RX’s launch closely. The model’s advanced sensor suite and battery platform could set new benchmarks in its class.
With pre-orders opening August 20 and a public debut at the Chengdu Auto Show, potential customers will soon have the opportunity to see the RX up close and compare it directly with competitors like the Xiaomi YU7.
