MG 07 Launches in China With Up to 845 km Range and Aggressive Pricing

SAIC Motor’s MG brand has officially introduced the MG 07 sedan at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, offering both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid options. With a limited-time starting price of $15,698 (~AUD 22,091), the MG 07 aims to attract buyers with its long range and advanced features.

MG 07 Debuts at Chengdu Auto Show

The MG 07 was unveiled at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, which opened on August 21 and runs until August 30. This marks China’s first A-class Auto Show in the second half of the year. The new sedan is available in seven variants, with limited-time prices ranging from $15,698 (~AUD 22,091) to $23,258 (~AUD 32,729). Official list prices are slightly higher, from $16,143 (~AUD 22,716) to $23,703 (~AUD 33,355).

Customers trading in or replacing an existing vehicle can access an additional $445 (~AUD 626) subsidy. The launch prices are notably lower than the pre-sales range of $18,663 (~AUD 26,263) to $24,592 (~AUD 34,607) announced when pre-sales began on July 29.

Powertrain and Range Options

The MG 07 is offered with both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The top battery-electric version features an 800-volt high-voltage platform and a 91-kWh CATL battery pack, delivering a CLTC range of 845 km (~525 miles) and supporting 5C fast charging.

Lower-range 650 and 610 versions use 67-kWh battery packs and a 400-volt architecture, with batteries supplied by SAIC-backed Qingtao Energy. Deliveries for the 650 versions are set to begin in late August, while the 845 versions will start reaching customers in October.

The plug-in hybrid variant is powered by a 1.5-liter hybrid-specific engine and a drive motor with a peak output of 152 kW. It uses a CATL lithium iron phosphate battery pack, offering a CLTC battery-only range of 245 km (~152 miles) and a combined range of 1,745 km (~1,084 miles). Fuel consumption is rated at 2.91 liters per 100 km when the battery is depleted.

Design and Technology Features

The MG 07 measures 4,886 mm (~192 inches) in length, 1,900 mm (~75 inches) in width, and 1,485 mm (~58 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm (~111 inches). Its fastback design includes a liftback tailgate, four frameless doors, and a five-position adjustable powered rear spoiler.

Cargo space is generous, with a 168-liter frunk and a 697-liter rear compartment. Inside, the MG 07 is equipped with a Qualcomm 8295P chip, a 15.6-inch 2.5K central infotainment display, a 21-speaker 7.1.4-channel audio system, and a zero-gravity front passenger seat.

This is the first MG model to feature LiDAR and Momenta’s R7 world-model-based assisted-driving system, paired with an Xheart X7 chip dedicated to large AI models.

Competitor Comparison

The MG 07 enters a highly competitive segment in China, with direct rivals including the BYD Seal 07 DM-i and Lynk & Co 07 EM-P. MG’s current electric lineup in China also features the MG4 series hatchbacks and the MG Cyberster convertible sports car.

Why this matters

The launch of the MG 07 brings a new option to Chinese consumers seeking long-range electric or plug-in hybrid sedans at accessible prices. Its combination of advanced technology, high-voltage fast charging, and competitive pricing could influence buyer expectations in this segment.

With deliveries set to begin soon, the MG 07’s performance in the market will be closely watched, especially given the strong competition from established domestic brands.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in the MG 07 can take advantage of limited-time pricing and additional subsidies for trade-ins. Those seeking long-range electric driving or advanced assisted-driving features may find the MG 07 particularly appealing.

With deliveries for some versions starting in late August and others in October, early adopters will soon have the opportunity to experience MG’s latest technology and design.
