Boston Celtics forward Paul George recently appeared in a video exploring the new XPENG G9L, a global 5-seat electric SUV revealed last week. The video, posted on XPENG’s Xiaohongshu (RedNote) page, shows George’s reaction to the vehicle’s features and design. The G9L is also expected to make its European debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026.
XPENG G9L: Design and Comfort Features
The XPENG G9L measures 5,120 mm (~202 inches) in length and is offered with two rows of seats. Both the front and rear seats can recline to zero gravity positions at the same time, while the front seats can fold completely flat and join the rear seats without removing the headrests. The SUV’s design is described as traditional, with a drag coefficient of 0.238, making it more aerodynamic than some well-known models.
Electric sunshades for the roof and side windows provide privacy and block sunlight. The G9L offers 1,152 liters (~40.7 cubic feet) of rear cargo space, with additional room for two carryon suitcases below the rear floor. Numerous storage spaces are distributed throughout the vehicle.
Interior Technology and Passenger Experience
Adaptive seats in the G9L contain 91 pressure sensors to adjust to each passenger, and all seats include heating, ventilation, and multiple massage points. The vehicle is also equipped with a dual zone refrigerator.
Entertainment options include multiple screens, notably a 21.4-inch 3k display that folds down from the ceiling for rear passengers. When the middle seat is not in use, a motorized, adjustable tray table folds out from the center armrest.
Performance, Range, and Intelligent Driving
The XPENG G9L delivers 430 kW (577 hp) of power and uses an 800V platform. According to preliminary data, it can add 450 km (~280 miles) of range in nine minutes and offers a total range of up to 805 km (~500 miles) CLTC. An EREV version is available, providing up to 350 km (~217 miles) of WLTC battery range.
The G9L features 2,250 TOPS of effective computing power and the VLA 2.0 intelligent driving system. XPENG states that this system is poised to be the first to comply with new, harmonized UN DCAS regulations.
Paul George’s Impressions
Paul George, who stands 6’8” tall, commented on the spaciousness and comfort of the G9L, noting, “It’s just next level. I think it’s very innovative.” He also praised the vehicle’s paint color and compared its shape to the Range Rover he drives in the US.
George added, “I wish I had one of these. It does everything.”
Market Availability and Pricing
The XPENG G9L is anticipated to launch in Europe at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026. XPENG is also expanding into the Philippines. The official price of the G9L has not yet been announced. For reference, the XPENG GX currently starts at $39,913 (~AUD 56,568). The Tesla Model Y in China starts at $38,981 (~AUD 55,247), or $48,449 (~AUD 68,665) with Tesla Driver Assist.
Why this matters
The XPENG G9L demonstrates how electric SUVs are evolving to meet the needs of a wide range of customers, including those seeking advanced comfort and technology features. Paul George’s reaction highlights the appeal of spacious, well-equipped EVs to buyers who value both performance and passenger experience.
With its combination of range, power, and intelligent driving systems, the G9L is positioned as a notable entry in the premium electric SUV segment.
