Nio Announces Harbin, Wuhan, and Xiamen as Finalists for Nio Day 2026 Host City

Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) has revealed Harbin, Wuhan, and Xiamen as the three finalist cities vying to host Nio Day 2026. The annual flagship event will return to its traditional year-end schedule, with the final host to be selected by a user vote.

Three Cities Advance in Bidding Process

On July 4, eight cities completed their pitch presentations to Nio’s organizing committee, showcasing their local communities and resource advantages. Following a comprehensive evaluation, Harbin, Wuhan, and Xiamen were nominated as the final candidates for Nio Day 2026.

The other five cities in the original bidding pool were Changchun, Chongqing, Jinan, Nanjing, and Qingdao.

User Voting to Decide Host City

The next stage of the process will see the three candidate cities present themselves through the Nio App and other channels from July 14 to 17. Nio users will then be able to cast their votes using Nio Points between July 17 and 18 to determine the winning city.

Nio Day Returns to Year-End Schedule

Nio Day is the company’s most important annual event, first held in Beijing in 2017. Nearly 10,000 users gather in the host city each year to witness major product and technology launches.

This year marks the sixth time Nio has used a city bidding process, a mechanism introduced in 2020. Last year was an exception, with Hangzhou selected as the host city for Nio Day 2025 without a user vote. That event took place on September 20, marking the first time Nio Day was held in the fall rather than at year-end. For 2026, the event will return to its usual December timing.

Recent Highlights from Nio Day

At last year’s event in Hangzhou, Nio officially launched the third-generation ES8 SUV. The model, which starts at $59,905 (~AUD 86,377), has been described as a high-margin vehicle and has played a significant role in improving Nio’s financial performance.

Why this matters

The selection of the Nio Day 2026 host city through user voting continues the company’s approach of involving its community in major decisions. The return to a year-end schedule also restores the event’s traditional timing, which has been a hallmark since its inception.

What this means for buyers

Nio owners and enthusiasts should watch for the upcoming presentations and voting period in July to participate in choosing the next Nio Day location. The event is expected to remain a key platform for new product launches and company announcements.
