Refreshed Deepal S05 with LiDAR Launches in China, Priced from $17,139 (~AUD 24,296)

Changan has officially launched the refreshed Deepal S05 in China, introducing significant updates to both its design and technology. The new model, available in five trim levels, now features LiDAR and enhanced intelligent driving capabilities. The Deepal S05 is a global model and is already available in several international markets.

Design and Exterior Updates

The refreshed Deepal S05 debuts with ‘Interstellar Wing’ design elements and new flowing silver decorative lines. The exterior is further distinguished by ‘Smart Wing’ headlights and a choice of four body colours: Moonlight White, Flowing Silver, Sky Black, and Lunar Grey.

Other notable features include frameless doors, semi-hidden mechanical door handles, and new 18-inch wheels. The vehicle measures 4,620 mm (~182 inches) in length, 1,900 mm (~75 inches) in width, and 1,600 mm (~63 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,880 mm (~113 inches).

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Deepal S05 is equipped with a 15.6-inch 2.5K ultra-high-definition ‘Sunflower Screen’ that can rotate up to 15° to either side. A 50-inch AR-HUD with adaptive brightness offers customizable layouts for lyrics, AR navigation, and mini-maps.

The cockpit is powered by a 3nm automotive-grade chip running the Deepal OS 4.2 system. Storage has been expanded to 37 locations throughout the vehicle, including a 492L dual-layer rear trunk and a 159L front trunk. An optional 18-speaker sky surround sound system (7.1.4 layout) is available, delivering up to 1,280W of output power.

Performance and Battery

The Deepal S05 is offered with CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries in two capacities: 56.12 kWh and 68.82 kWh. These deliver CLTC ranges of 520 km (~323 miles) and 620 km (~385 miles), respectively.

All models come standard with 3C supercharging, allowing charging from 30% to 80% state of charge in 15 minutes or less. The single-motor electric powertrain produces 272 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.28 seconds.

Advanced Driver Assistance and Intelligence

A major highlight of the refreshed S05 is its comprehensive sensor suite, which includes 27 high-perception components: one LiDAR, three millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 11 HD cameras (including dual 8-megapixel front cameras).

The system is powered by two Horizon J6M chips, delivering 256 TOPS of computing power. This setup supports over 90 assisted-driving functions across urban, highway, and parking scenarios.

Why this matters
