The Biden administration has revised the solar development plan for 22 million acres of federal lands in the US West. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory have concluded that 700,000 acres of federal lands will be necessary for solar farms in the next two decades. BLM proposed 22 million acres to provide “maximum flexibility” in supporting the US goal of achieving a net-zero power sector by 2035.
