In April 2024, the adoption of electric vehicles experienced a decline in Australia, as sales of battery electric vehicles constituted only 6.4% of total new car sales. This figure marks a decrease from the nearly 10% share witnessed in the preceding two months. According to recent data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), there were 6,194 sales of all electric vehicles, down from the peak levels exceeding 10,000 sales seen in February and March. Despite this dip in electric vehicle sales, the overall new car market in Australia has reached record highs, fueled by strong demand for hybrid vehicles and large SUVs among Australian consumers.
