New Hampshire is set to become coal-free as both of its coal plants are scheduled to close, marking New England as the second coal-free region in the United States. This transition follows a settlement reached between Sierra Club, The Conservation Law Foundation, EPA, and Granite Shore Power. As part of the agreement, the power station based in Bow, New Hampshire, has committed to retiring the coal-burning units at Merrimack and Schiller Stations in New Hampshire by 2028 and 2025, respectively.
