Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09: Specs Revealed for Upcoming Electric Sedan

Volkswagen’s ID. Unyx 09 is preparing for its official launch later this year, with new details emerging from Chinese regulatory filings. Developed in collaboration with Xpeng, the ID. Unyx 09 stands out for its size, power, and bold design, positioning it above the ID.7 in Volkswagen’s electric lineup.

Powertrain and Performance

According to documents from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 will be available in two variants: rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The base model features a rear-mounted motor producing 308 hp (230 kW / 313 PS).

The all-wheel drive version adds a 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) front motor, resulting in a combined maximum output of 496 hp (370 kW / 503 PS). Both variants have a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h) and use a lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by CATL.

Design and Dimensions

The ID. Unyx 09 features an aggressive exterior with split lighting units and a shark nose design at the front. Blacked out A-pillars, muscular bodywork, and a gently sloping roofline contribute to its sporty appearance.

Other notable features include a panoramic glass roof and a choice of 20- or 21-inch wheels. At the rear, the sedan sports slender taillights with a red Volkswagen logo, a wide trunk, and a black bumper with an integrated diffuser.

In terms of size, the ID. Unyx 09 measures 200 inches (~5,081 mm) long, 78 inches (~1,980 mm) wide, and 59.4-60 inches (~1,509-1,526 mm) tall, with a wheelbase of 119.3 inches (~3,030 mm). Curb weights are listed at 4,866 lbs (~2,207 kg) and 5,086 lbs (~2,307 kg), depending on the variant.

Comparison with the ID.7

The ID. Unyx 09 is notably larger than the ID.7, measuring 4.7 inches (119 mm) longer and offering an extra 2.5 inches (64 mm) of wheelbase. This positions the new model as a more spacious and potentially more premium option within Volkswagen’s electric sedan range.

Why this matters

The introduction of the ID. Unyx 09 highlights Volkswagen’s ongoing collaboration with Xpeng and its focus on expanding its electric vehicle offerings in China. With its larger dimensions, high power output, and distinctive styling, the ID. Unyx 09 is set to appeal to buyers seeking a more substantial and performance-oriented electric sedan.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in a large, powerful electric sedan will soon have a new option when the ID. Unyx 09 launches later this year. Those considering the ID.7 may want to compare both models, especially if interior space and performance are top priorities.
