Why BYD said no when Tesla asked for help with 4680 battery cell production

In the latter part of 2023, Tesla initiated the procurement of cathode coils from two Chinese battery manufacturers of secondary significance. These coils were then transported to the company’s factory in Texas, USA, where they were utilized in the production of 4680 batteries, as reported by the local media outlet LatePost. It’s worth highlighting that cathode coils constitute approximately 35 percent of the total cell cost, according to the report.
