Xiaomi Launches Titan Alloy 2.0, Achieves 93% Emissions Cut in EV Manufacturing

Xiaomi Auto has introduced Titan Alloy 2.0, a new manufacturing material made entirely from recycled aluminium, marking a significant step in reducing carbon emissions from its electric vehicles. The company claims a 93% reduction in manufacturing emissions compared to traditional primary aluminium, verified by independent auditors. This move positions Xiaomi to better meet strict European carbon regulations and scale up its global EV ambitions.

Titan Alloy 2.0: A Leap in Low-Carbon Manufacturing

Titan Alloy 2.0 is Xiaomi Auto’s latest innovation, featuring a 100% recycled-aluminium composition for use in automotive structural components. The alloy is now deployed in mass-produced integrated die-cast rear floor assemblies, eliminating the need for virgin metal in critical safety zones.

The material registers a certified carbon emission value of 1.1 kgCO₂e per kilogram, representing a 93% reduction in carbon output compared to conventional primary aluminium. These figures have been verified by the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and the alloy is officially registered in the international EPD system.

Advanced Production and Verification

The manufacturing process for Titan Alloy 2.0 involves a specialised six-step sequence, starting with a five-stage preprocessing of raw materials, followed by smelting and precise composition adjustments. The resulting alloy ingots are fed directly into automated gigacasting assembly lines, ensuring consistent mechanical performance.

Internal X-ray diagnostics are used to verify the structural integrity of each casting. The China Machinery Industry Federation has also validated the alloy’s performance through a technical verification committee.

Impact on Emissions and Regulatory Compliance

By using low-carbon structural castings, Xiaomi reduces carbon emissions by approximately 800 kg (~1,760 lbs) per vehicle. With an annual production target of 550,000 vehicles for its next-generation platform, the company estimates a total reduction of around 450,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year.

This shift comes as the European Union prepares to enforce its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which will tax imported vehicles based on their lifecycle environmental impact. Xiaomi’s adoption of Titan Alloy 2.0 is expected to improve the compliance profile of its export models, such as the upcoming Xiaomi YU7 GT electric SUV.

Sales Performance and Market Expansion

According to China EV DataTracker, Xiaomi SU7 sales reached 24,023 units in May 2026, though this marked a 10.4% decline from the previous month and a 14.2% drop year-over-year. Despite the decrease, the SU7 maintained a 73.3% share of Xiaomi’s brand sales.

The newly launched Xiaomi YU7 recorded 8,736 deliveries in May 2026, accounting for 26.7% of the brand’s monthly volume. Xiaomi’s internal projections aim for an annual production rate of 550,000 vehicles as the company continues to expand its EV lineup.

Competitor Comparison

Xiaomi’s push for low-carbon manufacturing with Titan Alloy 2.0 places it ahead of many domestic and international rivals in terms of emissions reduction. While other Chinese EV makers are also exploring sustainable materials, Xiaomi is the first to deploy a fully recycled alloy in mass-produced structural components. This could give Xiaomi an edge as global regulations tighten and consumers become more environmentally conscious.

Why this matters

Xiaomi’s adoption of Titan Alloy 2.0 demonstrates a proactive approach to meeting both environmental and regulatory challenges in the global automotive market. With the European Union’s new carbon-based import taxes on the horizon, manufacturers that can prove lower lifecycle emissions will have a competitive advantage.

This move also supports Xiaomi’s broader ambitions to scale up EV production and expand internationally, while responding to increasing consumer and regulatory demand for sustainable vehicles.

What this means for buyers

For consumers, Xiaomi’s focus on low-carbon manufacturing could translate into vehicles that are not only more environmentally friendly but also better positioned for export to regions with strict emissions standards. Buyers interested in sustainability may find Xiaomi’s EVs particularly appealing as the company continues to innovate in green manufacturing.

Potential buyers should also watch for the rollout of new models like the YU7 GT, which are expected to benefit from these advanced materials and may become available in more international markets as Xiaomi ramps up production.
