XPENG to Launch L03 and X9 Smart EVs in the Philippines in Q3 2026

XPENG is set to enter the Philippine market in the third quarter of 2026, introducing its globalized Smart EV lineup. According to CleanTechnica, the company will launch with two models, likely the L03 SUV coupe and the X9 premium electric MPV, both designed with international markets in mind.

XPENG’s Direct Entry and Global Strategy

XPENG Philippines will operate as a direct subsidiary, not a third-party distributor, thanks to the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA, Republic Act No. 11697), which allows 100% foreign equity in EV manufacturing and distribution. This approach aligns with XPENG’s broader international strategy, as the company already has a presence in over 60 countries and regions, supported by more than 380 overseas stores and operations in markets such as Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Thailand, and Mexico.

The company has not yet announced Philippine pricing, specifications, or dealership and charging partners. Local media are expected to visit XPENG’s facilities in China soon to preview the models.

The L03: XPENG’s First Global Vehicle

The L03, officially unveiled in Munich in July, is described by XPENG as its first ‘global vehicle.’ Unlike previous models adapted for export, the L03 was developed from the outset for international roads, regulations, and consumers. As CleanTechnica’s Larry Evans noted, ‘the car was designed with international roads, regulations and consumers in mind, rather than being an export derivative.’

The L03 measures 4,650 mm (~183 inches) in length and 1,920 mm (~76 inches) in width, placing it just below the XPENG G6 and between the Toyota RAV4 and Tesla Model Y in size. Evans described the L03 as sitting in the ‘sweet spot of the global EV market.’

Features and Technology

The L03 will be available in both battery-electric and PowerX range-extender versions for global markets. The BEV Long Range variant is rated for up to 520 km (~323 miles), while the range-extender version is designed to provide more than 1,000 km (~621 miles) of total range. This flexibility could be particularly useful in the Philippines, where charging infrastructure is still developing outside major cities.

XPENG has integrated Google Maps Auto SDK into the L03, enabling navigation linked with energy-use calculations and intelligent-driving functions. The vehicle’s VLA 2.0 system is targeted for global deployment in 2027. As Evans observed, ‘What really sets vehicles apart is the execution,’ emphasizing the importance of practical design and usability over headline technology.

The X9: Premium Electric MPV

If included in the Philippine launch, the X9 will offer a seven-seat layout, 800-volt architecture, rear-wheel steering, and advanced suspension. While the X9 targets a more affluent segment, it demonstrates XPENG’s technological capabilities, complementing the more broadly appealing L03.

Why this matters

XPENG’s entry into the Philippines marks a significant step in the country’s EV market development, bringing a globalized approach rather than simply exporting China-focused models. The L03’s design for international standards could help accelerate mainstream EV adoption, especially as it addresses practical concerns like range and usability.

The company’s direct subsidiary model and flexible product lineup may set a new precedent for how foreign EV brands approach Southeast Asian markets.

What this means for buyers

Buyers in the Philippines can expect XPENG’s first offerings to be tailored for local needs, with the L03 positioned as a practical family crossover and the X9 as a premium MPV. Those considering an EV will want to watch for official pricing, dealership locations, and charging partnerships as details are announced in the coming months.

Potential customers should also consider the L03’s range-extender option if long-distance travel or limited charging access is a concern.
