Xpeng Mona L03 Debuts in China: Pre-Sales Open Ahead of July 16 Launch

Xpeng has officially unveiled the Mona L03, its first SUV in the Mona lineup, at a debut event in Beijing. Pre-sales for the model are now open, with the official launch set for July 16. The Mona L03 brings a choice of battery electric and extended-range powertrains, advanced AI features, and a design led by a former Ferrari designer.

Pre-Sales and Model Overview

Xpeng has opened pre-sales for the Mona L03, with prices starting at $21,158 (~AUD 30,652) and ranging up to $24,395 (~AUD 35,341) across six versions. The company positions the Mona L03 as ‘young people’s first smart and stylish SUV,’ targeting a younger demographic.

Following its China debut, the Mona L03 is expected to be showcased at a global launch event in Europe, according to previously announced plans.

Powertrain Options and Performance

The Mona L03 continues Xpeng’s dual-powertrain strategy, offering both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants. The BEV version provides two CLTC range options: 525 km (~326 miles) and 625 km (~388 miles), with a combined power consumption of 11.9 kWh per 100 km. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is as quick as 6.6 seconds.

The BEV supports 3C fast charging, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in just 19.1 minutes. The EREV version delivers a maximum CLTC combined range of 1,330 km (~826 miles), with a pure electric range of 315 km (~196 miles) and a WLTC combined fuel consumption of 5.16 liters per 100 km.

Smart Features and Technology

All versions of the Mona L03 come standard with Xpeng’s in-house developed Turing AI chip. The Max versions feature a single Turing chip with 750 TOPS of computing power and a distilled version of the second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) assisted driving system.

Ultra SE versions are equipped with dual Turing chips, offering 1,500 TOPS and supporting the full version of the second-generation VLA. This brings advanced assisted driving hardware to the mass market at a price point around $22,070 (~AUD 31,973).

Design and Interior

The Mona L03 was designed by a global team led by JuanMa Lopez, a former Ferrari exterior designer. The SUV features a drag coefficient as low as 0.228 and a sloping fastback silhouette. Dimensions are 4,650 mm (~183 inches) in length, 1,920 mm (~76 inches) in width, and 1,600 mm (~63 inches) in height, with a 2,850 mm (~112 inches) wheelbase.

Inside, the cabin includes a 15.6-inch 2.5K central control screen, a 26.8-inch W-HUD head-up display, a 20-speaker AI audio system, and a front passenger zero-gravity seat with 14-point massage. The hatchback-style trunk offers 539 liters (~19 cubic feet) of standard capacity, expandable to 1,640 liters (~58 cubic feet) with the rear seats folded, plus a 102-liter (~3.6 cubic feet) front trunk and support for 6 kW external discharging.

Special Editions and Model Lineup

Xpeng also introduced a ROAM special edition of the Mona L03, customized with input from brand ambassador Ouyang Nana. The Mona L03 is the second model in the Mona lineup, following the M03 sedan.

In Xpeng’s naming system, ‘M’ stands for sedan and ‘L’ for SUV, together referencing ‘Mona Lisa.’

Sales Context and Company Performance

The M03 sedan, launched in August 2024, delivered 175,689 units in 2025, making up 40.91% of Xpeng’s total deliveries. However, M03 deliveries in the first five months of 2026 totaled 48,291 units, a 33.15% decrease year-on-year.

Xpeng’s overall sales have recently rebounded, with 40,126 vehicles delivered in June 2026—a 15.93% year-on-year increase and the company’s highest monthly total so far this year. This ended a streak of five consecutive months of year-on-year declines.

Why this matters

The Xpeng Mona L03 brings advanced AI-assisted driving features and a choice of powertrains to the mass-market SUV segment at a competitive price. Its debut comes as Xpeng’s sales recover, signaling renewed momentum for the brand.

With its combination of technology, design, and value, the Mona L03 is positioned to appeal to younger buyers and could help Xpeng strengthen its presence both in China and internationally.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in a technologically advanced, stylish SUV with flexible powertrain options now have a new contender in the Mona L03. With pre-sales open and the official launch set for July 16, those considering a purchase may want to monitor early reviews and availability, especially as Xpeng prepares for a global rollout.
