BYD has released official images of the upcoming 2027 Seal 06 sedan, which will feature LiDAR technology for improved driver assistance. The new model brings notable upgrades in size, design, and powertrain options compared to the current Seal 06 EV, which launched in June 2025.
2027 Seal 06: Design and Technology Upgrades
The 2027 Seal 06 introduces a LiDAR unit mounted on the roof, marking a significant change from the current model, which relies on BYD’s camera-based God’s Eye C driver-assistance system. Official images shared by Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean lineup sales division, show a sedan with a cleaner front fascia, slimmer headlights, and a sharper full-width taillight design.
The new model is positioned as a fully equipped B-segment family sedan and retains much of the current Seal 06’s overall styling, while refining several exterior details.

Larger Dimensions and Powertrain Options
According to regulatory filings, the 2027 Seal 06 measures 4,870 mm (~192 inches) in length, 1,890 mm (~74 inches) in width, and 1,495 mm (~59 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm (~111 inches). This makes it significantly longer and slightly wider than the current Seal 06 EV, which measures 4,720 mm (~186 inches) in length and 1,880 mm (~74 inches) in width.
The battery electric version of the 2027 Seal 06 will offer two single-motor powertrain options with peak outputs of 120 kW and 240 kW, an increase over the current model’s 110 kW and 160 kW options. A plug-in hybrid version will also be available, featuring a 1.5-liter engine and battery-only ranges of 170 km (~106 miles), 205 km (~127 miles), and 230 km (~143 miles).
Current Seal 06: Pricing and Features
The current Seal 06 EV was launched at the Chongqing Auto Show in June 2025, with three variants priced from $16,191 (~AUD 23,156) to $19,140 (~AUD 27,373). It offers a maximum CLTC range of 545 km (~339 miles) and is equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye C driver-assistance system, which supports highway navigation-assisted driving and automated parking.
Unlike the upcoming model, the current Seal 06 does not feature LiDAR and relies solely on cameras for its driver-assistance functions.
Seal Series Sales Performance
The Seal name, originally used for a single electric sedan, now covers a series of sedan models within BYD’s lineup. In June, the Seal series sold 33,365 vehicles, representing a 24.83% decrease year-on-year and a 2.2% drop from May. For the first half of this year, Seal series sales totaled 170,142 vehicles, down 16.02% compared to the same period last year.
The Seal 06 is one of several new models in BYD’s pipeline, alongside upcoming vehicles such as the Qin Max sedan, which will support ultra-fast charging.

Why this matters
The addition of LiDAR to the 2027 Seal 06 signals a step forward in BYD’s driver-assistance technology, potentially offering more advanced safety and convenience features than previous models. The larger size and expanded powertrain options may appeal to a broader range of buyers looking for flexibility in electric and hybrid drivetrains.
With the Seal series experiencing a decline in sales, the introduction of new technology and updated models could help BYD maintain its competitiveness in the evolving electric vehicle market.
What this means for buyers
Buyers interested in the latest driver-assistance features may want to consider waiting for the 2027 Seal 06, which will offer LiDAR-based technology and new powertrain choices. Those seeking a more affordable option can still find value in the current Seal 06 EV lineup, which remains available with camera-based driver assistance and a competitive range.
