Tesla Approaches 1.5 Million FSD Subscribers as Adoption Surges

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscription service has reached a new milestone, with the company reporting nearly 1.5 million active subscribers worldwide. According to InsideEVs, Tesla added 200,000 new FSD users in the last quarter alone, marking the largest quarterly increase to date.

Record Growth for Tesla’s FSD Subscriptions

Tesla’s latest quarterly earnings report reveals that 1.48 million vehicles globally now have active FSD (Supervised) subscriptions. This figure includes both customers who purchased FSD outright and those paying monthly, but excludes any free trial users.

The 200,000-subscriber jump in the last quarter represents a 56% increase compared to the same period last year. Tesla’s FSD subscriber base is now generating over $65 million in monthly revenue.

FSD Now Subscription-Only and More Affordable

Tesla has shifted to a subscription-only model for FSD in most markets, with the current monthly price set at $99 (~AUD 142). Previously, customers could buy FSD as an up-front option for as much as $15,000 (~AUD 21,506), or as an $8,000 (~AUD 11,470) add-on before the subscription model was introduced.

Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja stated during the earnings call, “In Q2, we had, in North America, about 55% of our deliveries had FSD subscription at the time of delivery enabled.” Of the 1.48 million FSD customers, 55% purchased the feature outright, while 45% are current subscribers.

Global Expansion and Revenue Impact

As of June, Tesla has launched FSD in 12 countries and is seeking regulatory approval in additional regions. The company delivered 480,126 vehicles worldwide in Q2 2026.

With the current adoption rate, FSD is contributing approximately $791M (~AUD 1.1B) in annual software revenue. Tesla’s lifetime vehicle deliveries now total 9.7 million, with FSD adoption at about 15.2% of all vehicles sold.

Why this matters

The rapid growth in FSD subscriptions highlights a significant shift in Tesla’s business model, with recurring software revenue becoming a major contributor. As hardware sales face increased competition, software features like FSD offer Tesla a steady income stream and help fund ongoing development.

The move to subscription-only pricing also lowers the barrier for owners to try FSD, potentially increasing adoption as the technology expands to new markets.

What this means for buyers

For current and prospective Tesla owners, FSD is now only available as a monthly subscription in most regions, making it more accessible than the previous up-front pricing. Buyers interested in advanced driver assistance features will need to subscribe, as new Teslas now come standard only with adaptive cruise control.

Those considering a Tesla should factor in the ongoing cost of FSD if they want access to the latest supervised driving features.
