BYD Seal 07 EV Debuts With Over 700 km WLTP Range and Flash Charging

BYD has unveiled the new Seal 07 EV sedan, promising up to 718 km (~446 miles) of WLTP range and rapid charging capabilities. The model, revealed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, is set to replace the current Seal 07 in China’s competitive electric sedan market.

New Generation BYD Seal 07: Key Features

The latest BYD Seal 07 EV is positioned as a smaller sibling to the Ocean series’ flagship Seal 08. Measuring 5,080 mm (~200 inches) in length, 1,960 mm (~77 inches) in width, and 1,495 mm (~59 inches) in height, with a 2,960 mm (~117 inches) wheelbase, the sedan offers a spacious interior and a sleek profile.

The entry-level Seal 07 BEV features a 76.744 kWh Blade 2.0 LFP battery, weighing 539 kg (~1,188 lbs), and powers a 245 kW (329 hp) TZ205QYS electric motor. This version achieves up to 636 km (~395 miles) WLTP range and can be charged from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes.

For those seeking more range and power, the long-range Seal 07 BEV comes with an 88.682 kWh battery (618.6 kg/~1,364 lbs) and a 300 kW (408 hp) TZ205QYD motor. This variant delivers a WLTP range of 718 km (~446 miles) and a top speed of 240 km/h.

Plug-In Hybrid Option Expands the Lineup

BYD will also offer the Seal 07 with a plug-in hybrid (DM-i) system. This version combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine (115 kW/154 hp) with a 160 kW (215 hp) TZ210XYC electric motor. The DM-i variant reaches a top speed of 190 km/h and uses a 38.029 kWh LFP battery for up to 245 km (~152 miles) of electric-only range.

With a drained battery, the DM-i consumes 4.25 liters of fuel per 100 km.

Competitor Comparison

The BYD Seal 07 enters a segment crowded with advanced new energy sedans. Its closest rivals include the Xiaomi SU7, priced at $32,175 (~AUD 45,184), and the IM Motors L6, which features rear-wheel steering and targets the same 200,000 yuan (~$29,805 (~AUD 41,857)) price band.

The Seal 07 is priced over 21% lower than the Xiaomi SU7, making it a strong value proposition in the Chinese EV market.

Historical Context and Market Performance

BYD delivered 1,005 units of the current Seal 07 (including both BEV and PHEV variants) in August 2026, according to China EV DataTracker. This comes amid a broader decline in BYD’s domestic sales, which fell 39.6% in the first half of 2026.

Despite a 10% year-on-year drop in overall sales from 2025, BYD maintained a significant share of China’s new energy vehicle market, ranging from 26% to 34% over 2024 and 2025.

Why this matters

The launch of the new BYD Seal 07 demonstrates the brand’s ongoing commitment to innovation in the electric sedan segment, even as the company faces a challenging domestic market. With its extended range, rapid charging, and competitive pricing, the Seal 07 is positioned to attract buyers seeking advanced technology and value.

BYD’s ability to maintain a leading market share despite recent sales declines highlights the importance of continuous product updates and strong offerings in the face of growing competition.

What this means for buyers

For consumers in China, the new BYD Seal 07 offers a compelling mix of long-range capability, fast charging, and multiple powertrain options. Buyers considering alternatives like the Xiaomi SU7 or IM Motors L6 will find the Seal 07’s pricing and features highly competitive.

Those interested in the latest battery technology and rapid charging should watch for the Seal 07’s market launch, while buyers seeking a plug-in hybrid option will also have a new choice in the DM-i variant.
