Chery Jetour T1 Launches in China with Plug-In Hybrid Option and 150 km Electric Range

Chery’s Jetour brand has officially launched its T1 series in China, expanding the lineup with a new entry-level model and a plug-in hybrid variant. The updated range offers buyers a choice between petrol and electrified powertrains, with the plug-in hybrid delivering up to 150 km (~93 miles) of electric-only range. The T1 is also available in overseas markets, reflecting Jetour’s growing global presence.

Expanded Lineup and Pricing

The Jetour T1 series was launched in China on November 4, 2026. Sold domestically as the Jetour Freedom 7 and Freedom 7 Plus C-DM, the lineup now includes a lower-priced 1.5T front-wheel-drive entry model and a plug-in hybrid variant. The new base version starts at $13,450 (~AUD 19,290) under a limited-time promotional trade-in offer. The 2.0T all-wheel-drive model remains part of the range.

The full lineup consists of four 1.5T trims, two 2.0T Plus trims, and three Plus C-DM plug-in hybrid configurations. The original Jetour T1 opened pre-sales in February 2025 as a 2.0T all-wheel-drive model starting at $19,434 (~AUD 27,873).

Dimensions and Utility

The new entry version uses a 2,800 mm (~110 inches) wheelbase, while the Plus models have a slightly longer 2,810 mm (~110.6 inches) wheelbase. The standard T1 measures 4,749 mm (~187 inches) in length, 1,967 mm (~77.4 inches) in width, and 1,840 mm (~72.4 inches) in height. Plus versions are 4,796 mm (~189 inches) long, with the same width and height.

A side-hinged rear tailgate includes an external 13-litre storage compartment. Folding the rear seats creates a cargo area with a maximum longitudinal depth of 1,940 mm (~76.4 inches). Ground clearance is 185 mm (~7.3 inches) for the standard model and 200 mm (~7.9 inches) for the Plus, with wading depths of 600 mm (~23.6 inches) and 700 mm (~27.6 inches) respectively. The 2.0T Plus features BorgWarner’s XWD all-wheel-drive system, a crawl function, and multiple driving modes.

Powertrains and Electric Range

The entry-level T1 is powered by a 1.5TGDI turbocharged petrol engine producing 135 kW (181 hp) and 290 N·m of torque, paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) driving the front wheels. This version runs on 92-octane petrol.

The T1 Plus uses a 2.0T engine delivering 187 kW (251 hp) and 390 N·m, paired with all-wheel drive. The Plus C-DM plug-in hybrid combines a 1.5T petrol engine (115 kW/154 hp, 220 N·m) with a single-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) and a 26.6 kWh battery. This setup provides a CLTC-rated electric range of 150 km (~93 miles) and a claimed combined range of 1,300 km (~808 miles). Jetour quotes a weighted combined fuel consumption of 1.08 L/100 km and charge-depleted fuel consumption of 5.89 L/100 km.

The plug-in hybrid also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) power delivery, rated at 2.2 kW for interior use and 6.6 kW externally.

Technology and Driver Assistance

Inside, the Jetour T1 features a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen running Chery’s Tour OS. The entry model uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 processor, while Plus versions receive the Snapdragon 8255. The infotainment system integrates DeepSeek and iFlytek Spark large language models for advanced voice interaction and cabin functions.

Top-spec Plus configurations are equipped with Chery’s Falcon 500 driver-assistance package, which includes Highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA), automated parking assistance (APA), and automatic emergency braking (AEB). Lower trims offer more basic Level 2 driver-assistance systems.

Global Sales and Overseas Markets

The Jetour T1 has been introduced in overseas markets such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, where it is sold alongside the larger T2 (Traveller). At launch, Jetour reported that its boxy SUV family had surpassed 840,000 cumulative global sales, with the T1 line accounting for more than 222,000 units.

Why this matters

The launch of the Jetour T1’s expanded lineup, including a competitively priced plug-in hybrid, provides Chinese consumers with more affordable electrified SUV options. The availability of advanced driver-assistance features and a substantial electric-only range in the PHEV variant highlights the increasing sophistication of domestic brands.

With significant sales both in China and abroad, the T1 demonstrates the growing appeal of Chinese SUVs in global markets.

What this means for buyers

Buyers in China and select overseas markets now have access to a wider range of Jetour T1 models, including a plug-in hybrid with notable electric range and modern technology. Those interested in a value-focused SUV with electrified options can consider the T1 alongside other offerings in the segment.
