Nissan is set to begin pre-sales of its all-new NX7 SUV in China next week, marking another step in the brand’s growing new energy vehicle (NEV) portfolio. Alongside the NX7, Nissan will introduce another all-new NEV model as it accelerates its electrification efforts in the world’s largest auto market.
NX7 Pre-Sales and Model Details
Nissan announced that pre-sales for the NX7, a new plug-in hybrid SUV, will start in China next week. The NX7 is the fourth model in the N series from Dongfeng Nissan and the second SUV in the lineup after the NX8.
Regulatory filings show the NX7 is a 5-seat plug-in hybrid SUV, measuring 4,785 mm (~188 inches) in length, 1,932 mm (~76 inches) in width, and 1,665 mm (~66 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,815 mm (~111 inches). It pairs a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor delivering a peak output of 170 kW (228 hp), and is equipped with a 40.9 kWh battery from CATL. The NX7 offers a battery-electric range of 220 km (~137 miles) or 225 km, is fitted with a roof-mounted LiDAR, and supports urban navigate on autopilot (NOA).
Nissan’s NEV Expansion in China
To date, Nissan has launched five NEV models in China, including the N7 battery-electric sedan, the N6 plug-in hybrid sedan, the NX8 SUV, and the Frontier Pro pickup. The company plans to introduce five more NEVs in China by summer 2027 to cover mainstream market segments.
Nissan is showcasing its locally developed research and development achievements at the ninth China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
Export Strategy and Overseas Launches
Nissan is accelerating the overseas rollout of China-made models. In July, the first batch of the Frontier Pro pickup—designed, developed, and produced in China—was shipped to Latin America, followed by shipments to the Gulf region and Southeast Asia in September. Sales began in Mexico in October.
The N7 sedan, developed by a Chinese team, was shipped to Southeast Asia in September. On November 6, the Frontier Pro and N7 will officially go on sale in the Philippines under the names Navara Pro and Primera, respectively. Nissan stated that the Frontier Pro will enter additional Latin American markets by the end of 2026 and reach right-hand-drive markets, including Australia and New Zealand, in 2027. The NX8 and other models are also planned for export to selected markets worldwide.
Why this matters
Nissan’s ongoing expansion of its NEV lineup and the export of China-developed models highlight the company’s efforts to strengthen its position in both domestic and international markets. The introduction of the NX7 and additional NEVs demonstrates Nissan’s commitment to electrification and leveraging China’s supply chain and R&D capabilities.
What this means for buyers
Buyers in China can expect more NEV options from Nissan in the coming years, with the NX7 offering a new plug-in hybrid SUV positioned below the NX8. Those interested in Nissan’s latest models will also see increased availability in overseas markets, including Southeast Asia, Latin America, and eventually Australia and New Zealand.
