China’s next major auto show will take place in Shenzhen from May 29 to June 7, following the record-setting Beijing Auto Show earlier this month. The event is expected to span 300,000 square meters and place greater emphasis on interactive car culture, while BYD’s luxury brand Yangwang has already confirmed it will showcase its latest 2026 lineup.

China’s auto show season is moving quickly from the capital to the country’s southern tech center. The 2026 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show, better known as the Shenzhen Auto Show, will run from May 29 to June 7 at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center.
Organizers said the exhibition will cover about 300,000 square meters. That makes it slightly smaller than the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, which ended on May 3 and reached a record 380,000 square meters, according to the event’s official figures.
One of China’s major annual auto events
Unlike the Beijing and Shanghai auto shows, which are held every two years, other major Chinese auto shows such as Shenzhen, Chengdu and Guangzhou take place annually. That makes Shenzhen an important stop for automakers looking to maintain momentum in China’s fast-moving car market.

The timing also matters. With the Beijing show just wrapped up, the Shenzhen event offers another major platform for manufacturers to introduce models, show off technology and compete for attention in front of buyers, media and industry watchers.
More than static displays
This year’s Shenzhen Auto Show is also being positioned as more than a traditional exhibition of parked vehicles. Organizers say they want to build a more interactive local car culture around the event, with an emphasis on participation and community.
A one-day enthusiast gathering is scheduled for May 30 in a dedicated 3,000-square-meter area outside Hall 2. The event will feature more than 100 vehicles and include appearances by leading domestic automotive media key opinion leaders, who will meet visitors on site.
According to the organizers, the goal is to move beyond the standard auto-show format and turn the event into a broader car culture experience. In practice, that could make Shenzhen more appealing to younger buyers and auto fans who want to see not only new models, but also the communities and lifestyles surrounding them.
BYD’s Yangwang brand is already preparing
Automakers have started building anticipation ahead of the show. On Thursday, Yangwang, the premium brand under Shenzhen-based BYD, said it will bring its latest 2026 model lineup to the event.

The brand is also recruiting consumers through its official channels to join exhibition-related activities, aiming to give participants a closer look at its technology and luxury-focused products. Yangwang has been one of BYD’s key efforts to move upmarket, and the Shenzhen event gives it a home-city stage to do so.
Beijing show set a high bar
The Shenzhen event follows a strong showing in Beijing earlier this month. The 10-day Beijing Auto Show, held from April 24 to May 3, drew 1.28 million visitors from China and overseas, according to organizers.
It featured 1,451 vehicles across two venues, including 181 debut models and 71 concept cars. Intelligence and electrification were among the main themes, with many automakers highlighting vehicles equipped with large AI models and advanced digital features.
That context raises expectations for Shenzhen. While the show is smaller in scale, it is likely to remain a useful barometer for how China’s auto market is evolving, especially in EVs, smart vehicle technology and premium branding.
Why this matters
China’s auto shows are no longer just places to look at new cars. They have become important stages for measuring consumer interest, technology trends and brand positioning in the world’s largest vehicle market.
For EV buyers and industry followers, Shenzhen will offer another chance to see how automakers are balancing electrification, intelligent cabin tech and lifestyle marketing. It will also show whether the industry can turn auto shows into more interactive experiences rather than simple product launch events.
Why This Matters
The Shenzhen Auto Show is significant because it comes right after Beijing’s record-breaking event and will test whether China’s car industry can sustain momentum across multiple major exhibitions in a single season. For EV and smart-car readers, it is another window into how automakers are using auto shows to launch products, showcase software-driven features and build brand communities.

The event is also notable for its shift toward more immersive participation. If that format gains traction, it could influence how future auto shows are staged in China and beyond.
