BYD has introduced updated Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 and Bao 8 SUVs in China, sold overseas as the Denza B5 and Denza B8. The Flash-Charge Editions bring a new second-generation YunNian-P Ultra intelligent hydraulic suspension system, revised plug-in hybrid powertrains, and advanced driver-assistance hardware, with pricing starting at 299,800 yuan for the B5 and 409,800 yuan for the B8 after limited-time discounts.

BYD has launched updated versions of its Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 and Bao 8 SUVs in China, with the overseas names Denza B5 and Denza B8. The new Flash-Charge Editions went on sale on May 13 and introduce a more advanced suspension system, revised plug-in hybrid hardware, and updated driver-assistance technology.
Prices start at 305,800 yuan for the Denza B5 Flash-Charge Edition, though BYD is offering a limited-time launch price of 299,800 yuan. The Denza B8 Flash-Charge Edition is priced from 419,800 yuan, or 409,800 yuan with the introductory discount. BYD also added a new Denza B5 210 km Tianshen Max trim, priced at 259,800 yuan before discounts and 253,800 yuan during the launch period.
New suspension system is the main upgrade
The headline change for both SUVs is the move to the second-generation YunNian-P Ultra intelligent hydraulic body control system. BYD says the new setup replaces the previous single-valve damping design with a dual-valve layout and adds three-stage stiffness adjustment plus road-preview capability.

During the launch presentation, BYD said the system can independently lift a wheel by as much as 300 mm, supports three-wheel driving, and offers up to 200 mm of suspension travel adjustment. The company also said the hydraulic system has a lifting capacity of 9 tonnes.
The B5 sees the bigger jump in capability. Earlier versions used a simpler YunNian-P setup with only two stiffness levels and no road-preview function, so the Flash-Charge Edition brings its chassis technology much closer to the larger model.
Denza B5: midsize off-roader with plug-in hybrid power
The Denza B5 remains a midsize off-road SUV measuring 4,880 mm long, 1,970 mm wide, and 1,920 mm tall, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase. It uses a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system with dual electric motors producing a combined 505 kW and 760 Nm of torque.
BYD lists the front motor at 200 kW and the rear motor at 285 kW. A 46.7 kWh battery pack is fitted, with a claimed combined range of 1,310 km.
The SUV also comes with BYD’s God’s Eye B driver-assistance package. Hardware includes one lidar sensor, three millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 11 cameras. Functions include city navigation assist, highway navigation assist, and automated parking.
The B5 has also been in the public spotlight for legal reasons this year, after BYD won a defamation case linked to fuel-consumption claims about the model.

Denza B8: larger SUV with Huawei ADS 4
The Denza B8 continues to use BYD’s DMO plug-in hybrid platform. It combines a 2.0T engine with front and rear electric motors for a total output of 550 kW and 760 Nm of torque.
BYD says the B8 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Like the B5, it uses a 46.7 kWh battery pack, and the claimed combined driving range is 1,380 km.
Dimensions are 5,195 mm in length, 1,994 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height, with a 2,920 mm wheelbase. Buyers can choose five-, six-, or seven-seat configurations, making it the more family-oriented option in the lineup.
Unlike the B5, the B8 Flash-Charge Edition comes standard with Huawei ADS 4 driver-assistance technology. Its sensor suite includes two lidar sensors, three millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 11 cameras.
Sales momentum and brand expansion
BYD also used the launch event to highlight Fang Cheng Bao’s growth. The brand reported 21,138 domestic sales in April 2026, up 110.6% from a year earlier. March sales reached 21,120 units, while February sales came in at 14,491 units.
The company further confirmed that its Shark pickup series will be folded into the Fang Cheng Bao lineup in China, signaling a broader push to expand the brand beyond SUVs.
Why this launch matters
The Denza B5 and B8 updates show how quickly Chinese automakers are moving to combine plug-in hybrid performance with increasingly sophisticated chassis control and driver-assistance systems. BYD is no longer competing only on range or price; it is also trying to win on ride quality, off-road capability, and software-driven features.
For buyers, the launch adds more choice in the fast-growing premium SUV segment. For competitors, it raises the bar on what a large plug-in hybrid off-roader can offer at these price points.
Why This Matters
This launch matters because it shows BYD pushing its premium SUV strategy deeper into the technology-led off-road segment. The new suspension system, large battery packs, and advanced assistance hardware reflect the direction of China’s EV market, where manufacturers are combining electrification with increasingly complex chassis and software features.
It also matters for buyers comparing plug-in hybrid SUVs in China and overseas markets. The Denza B5 and B8 are positioned as long-range, high-performance models with off-road capability, making them a clear signal that BYD wants to compete on more than just low operating costs.
