Chery Group has announced that its luxury electric vehicle brand, Luxeed, will expand globally, with Australia set to receive its first models in 2027. The Luxeed Stormax electric SUV will be the brand’s first fully electric offering for Australian buyers, promising high-end performance and advanced technology.
Luxeed’s Global Expansion Plans
At a recent event in China, Chery Group confirmed that its Luxeed brand will be introduced to global markets, including right-hand drive regions such as Australia. Luxeed International CEO Shawn Xu outlined the initial expansion strategy, which will begin with two models: a plug-in hybrid people mover known internationally as the LLounge, and the fully electric Stomax SUV.
The international rollout of Luxeed is being led by Chery Group, while in China, Luxeed operates as a joint venture between Chery and Huawei.

Luxeed Stomax: Performance and Features
The Luxeed Stormax electric SUV, measuring 5 metres in length, is set to be the first fully electric model available in Australia. It features an 800 V electrical architecture, delivering up to 460 kW of power and 775 Nm of torque. The Stomax can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h.
In China, the Stomax (marketed as the Luxeed RX) was launched in late Q3 2026 and is offered with three battery options. The smallest battery is 81.1 kWh, providing up to 700 km (~435 miles) of range on the CLTC cycle. Two larger battery packs, each around 100 kWh, extend the range to 852 km (~530 miles) CLTC.

Market Launch and Pricing
The Luxeed Stormax was introduced in China with a starting price equivalent to A$55,500 (~$39,000). The model saw strong demand, with over 5,000 units sold in its first month.
While specific pricing and specifications for the Australian market have not yet been confirmed, the first Luxeed models are expected to arrive by mid-2027.
Why this matters
The arrival of Luxeed in Australia marks the entry of another high-performance electric vehicle brand, expanding consumer choice in the premium EV segment. With advanced features and competitive specifications, the Luxeed Stormax could appeal to buyers seeking luxury and performance in an electric SUV.
Chery Group’s move to bring Luxeed to right-hand drive markets also highlights the increasing globalisation of Chinese EV brands and their ambitions beyond domestic sales.
What this means for buyers
Australian buyers interested in premium electric SUVs will soon have a new option with the Luxeed Stormax. Those considering a purchase in this segment may want to monitor Luxeed’s official launch for final pricing and local specifications.
With deliveries expected from mid-2027, potential buyers have time to compare the Stomax with other offerings as more details become available.
