EVgo Launches First Tesla Supercharger-Equipped Station in Chicago, Plans Hundreds More Nationwide

EVgo has opened its first charging station featuring Tesla Supercharger hardware in Chicago, marking a significant step in the collaboration between two major charging networks. This move signals a broader rollout, with EVgo planning to add hundreds of Tesla-powered stalls across the United States in the coming years.

EVgo Integrates Tesla Superchargers

EVgo has installed Tesla Supercharger stalls at its Chicago station, making it the first EVgo site powered by Tesla hardware. The 12-stall location supports both NACS and CCS-equipped vehicles, thanks to Tesla’s Magic Dock connector. This integration allows a wider range of electric vehicles to access high-speed charging at EVgo stations.

Tesla’s V4 Supercharging cabinets, capable of delivering up to 500 kW, are now available for purchase and installation by commercial clients like EVgo. According to EVgo CEO Badar Khan, ‘Deploying our first EVgo Supercharger marks an important milestone in growing our customer base while supporting the EV industry’s transition to NACS.’

Expansion Plans and Technology

EVgo plans to add hundreds more Supercharger stalls nationwide, with a focus on grocery stores and shopping outlet centers owned by Regency Centers. Regency Centers, which already had plans for 400 additional charging stalls, has a longstanding partnership with EVgo.

Within the next two years, EVgo aims to equip every station built after 2023 with at least one NACS port. The company is also on track to reach 500 NACS-enabled charging stations across the country, not including the Tesla Supercharger network itself.

User Experience and Reliability

Tesla drivers can now find EVgo’s Superchargers in their in-car navigation system, provided the ‘third-party charging’ option is enabled. This integration streamlines the charging experience for Tesla owners using EVgo’s network.

Tesla claims its Supercharger network achieves 99% uptime, a benchmark for reliability in the industry. In a recent survey of EV drivers, EVgo ranked second in reliability, just behind Tesla. The addition of Tesla Supercharging cabinets is expected to further enhance EVgo’s reputation for dependable service.

Competitor Comparison

Tesla Supercharger remains the industry leader, offering prices between $0 (~AUD 0) and $0 (~AUD 1) per kWh and the most DC fast ports (38,681) with NACS connectors. Electrify America is another major player, with prices ranging from $0 (~AUD 0) to $0 (~AUD 1) per kWh and 6,019 DC fast ports, offering membership discounts. ChargePoint leads in the number of public stations (47,752) and Level 2 ports (79,212), while also expanding its DC fast charging footprint. EVgo’s integration of Tesla Superchargers positions it as a strong competitor in both reliability and network reach.

Historical Context

EVgo has experienced significant growth, with sales reaching 384.09 million dollars in 2025, representing a 49.55% year-over-year increase. This upward trend highlights the growing demand for reliable and accessible EV charging infrastructure in the United States.

Regional Availability

The rollout of Tesla-powered EVgo stations begins in Chicago, with plans to expand nationwide. The initial focus is on locations owned by Regency Centers, including grocery stores and shopping outlets, ensuring broad regional coverage as the network grows.

Why this matters

The integration of Tesla Supercharger hardware into EVgo’s network marks a shift toward greater interoperability and convenience for EV drivers. As more automakers adopt the NACS standard, access to reliable, high-speed charging becomes increasingly important.

This collaboration also demonstrates the growing maturity of the EV charging market, where network reliability and user experience are key differentiators. The move is likely to benefit both Tesla and non-Tesla drivers, supporting broader EV adoption.

What this means for buyers

For EV owners, the expansion of Tesla-powered EVgo stations means more charging options and improved reliability, especially for those driving vehicles with NACS or CCS connectors. Buyers should look for stations equipped with the latest hardware to ensure the fastest and most convenient charging experience.

As the network grows, drivers can expect increased coverage at popular retail locations, making long-distance travel and daily charging more accessible. Monitoring regional availability and hardware updates will help buyers make informed decisions about their charging needs.
